Exactly what is moleskin? I know it's a dressing, and I see it included in a lot of different first aid kits. But I haven't come across its specific uses. I've also had trouble finding it at a couple of local drugstores. Even a pharmacist had never heard of it.

mole skin is a type of felt material with an adhesive backing that is ment to be used to protect skin from friction. also to protect blistered skin from further trauma.

look in the dr. schols area of the grocery store, pharmacy, walmart, etc, you will find it in various sizes and sometimes also different thicknesses. you put it on like a bandaid over blisters caused by friction. this will help protect the area that has been injured. it can be made into odd shapes as you can trim it with scissors. and it will stick where you put it as it has an adhesive backing.

Thanks! I have a Walgreens just down the street. In fact, that's where the pharmacist had no idea of what I was talking about.

I'd seen it mentioned all over the place, but I have honestly never encountered moleskin in person. Now that I know what the stuff is, I'll check out the foot section.

Makes sense for hikers especially.

Moleskin saved my feet during Basic Training at Ft Benning, during my boot breaking in period. I have since used while I hike or hunt with new boots when I have blisters already forming. I know some people that use moelskin on certain areas of their feet before they get blisters too. What a godsend:D

Moleskin is great stuff! If you ignore your hot spots and get a blister, you can also cut out several doughnut shaped pieces, pile them on top of each other, and keep your sock/shoes from rubbing the blister.

Don't believe the felt story. I sell moles for a dollar a dozen to Dr. Scholls. It's beer money. :D ;)
