Those of us who use Moleskine notebooks can waterproof it along with a pen with an Aloksak:

Thank you so much, grnamin. Those Moleskine journal and sketchbook are exactly what I have sought for years. :) :)

After the last moleskin thread, I got the fever and order 3 different kinds of notebooks.

When they arrived I realized that for me, they serve not better then the .59 cent notebook from a drugstore. :grumpy:

So now I know what it feels like from the other side of the "sebenza isn't worth it" argument.

Doesn't Moleskine use waterproof paper? Isn't that why they're so expensive?

You're welcome, Hugh. :)

Cougar, it seems that only the cover, which is oilskin, is waterproof. Although I haven't wet mine, I've used some pens with very runny inks that have bled through to the other side of the page. It is acid-free paper and I wonder if that might contribute to the price.

The Moleskines are really nice, I agree. I've bought quite a few of them. In fact, they're almost too nice. I feel guilty writing mundane things in them. I don't like to rip pages out of them. It's as though everything that goes into Hemingway's notebook must be suitable for posterity. A lot of what I need a notebook for is stuff like To Do lists, quick figuring, notes to myself, etc. For that kind of thing, I'm more inclined to use a little spiral-bound sketch book that I can get at the art store for one-fifth the price of a Moleskine.

Oh, and my waterproof solution is called Ziploc.

I like, I want.....If only I had a use for it.
Where do you get Moleskine?

Paul

I googled around a little and found this:

Always use the elastic to keep the pages closed. The pages may be acid-free, but they are not waterproof. Keeping the book closed tightly with the elastic will limit any rain damage to the page edges.

Barnes & Noble sells them.

Cougar, are you thinking of the "Rite in the Rain" line sold here:

The stuff feels different than regular paper but truly is waterproof. Goes great with a Fisher Pen, stuffed inside an Aloksak ;) .

Campmore sells both products; they have a version of the Fisher pen that's less than $6, IIRC, which makes it reasonable to buy some and stash them where you might need them later.
