So, I 've got a J-Tech Gear Heracles backpack and the thing's got molle all over it. This is my first pack using the system. How should I go about attaching a Spec-Ops sheath for my BK2 onto the side? I've read about Blackhawk's molle speed clips, but I also see tac ties, and a ton of other options. Also, what would be a good option for the leather sheath on the hatchet? There are water bottle pockets on both sides that the handle will drop into, so I need to come up with a good way to attach sheath up top.
Crappy cell phone pic.

Thanks for any feedback here,
Steve

I should have mentioned this - the straps on the sheath, and on the pack, are fixed.
What do you mean "fixed"? I would recommend keep the crap hanging off the pack to a minimum. It increases the chances of stuff getting lost when you walk through the woods, and it can make it difficult to balance the pack. For the hatchet, you might consider using one of the pockets on the side and then rigging a piece of nylon strapping to one of the MOLLE webs via fastex buckle

I mean there's no velcro straps to thread through the webbing. If the molle system can be used at all in this case, I'd have to buy something else to do it. I'm asking if anyone here has experience with the speed clips or their alternatives.

Huh? Velcro straps? Why would you need any velcro? I am not sure I am understanding your correctly... If you wanted to attach that knife sheath to molle webbing, you could use those two loops at the top of the sheath (near the top of the handle of the knife) and just weave them through the molle webbing on the pack....

Store the hatchet with the head down on the pack. It will balance the pack better, will not want to fall off as easily and put the smaller part in the way of the zippers. Is that a top entry hatchet cover? Where you have to slide it down the handle to use it? Look up edge covers or for a bottom or rear loading head cover. I like edg covers because you can use the poll with it on, much safer that way.
