We received an email stating the snaps would not hold on the MOLLE strap. If you use a MOLLE system you MUST thread it properly or else the snap can come apart if the sheath gets caught on something, or by simply pulling on the sheath. The cross straps are on the MOLLE back for a reason. See this:

Excellent picture Jeff , Some Folks are Visual learners, did not know this was a issue but Cleared up with a simple picture !;)

Excellent visual - the weave is very important.

Something that the Army hammered in to my skull was to "dummy cord" everything that you don't want to lose. A piece of paracord tied off from one of the bottom holes on your sheath to your gear will save you hours of backtracking and being pissed off when your rig gets pulled off of your gear.

If the strap is threaded correctly then it stay in place without being snapped.

I'll kind of argue with that (no offense). If there's a way to tear something loose, soldiers will find a way.

Diceman is right, in the military you tie everything down, even if it's welded in place (ok, that may be going a bit far).

I've seen civilians as well that could inadvertantly tear the red off a brick. Dummy cording is always a good idea.

It's nothing to do with a flaw in your design, it's just that whenever you spend time and money coming up with something foolproof, someone comes out with a better fool. I'm one of those guys that could probably tear a properly threaded sheath off PALs webbing.

I have a question for you guys. I'm getting the tan RC-3 once it becomes available and I just got a tactical backpack with PALS webbing all over it.

What is the width of the strap in the back of the molle sheath? I want to make sure it'll attach to the backpack.

Also, do the RC-3s come with the molle locks in picture "2". The RC site lists "Sheath System w/ MOLLE back and boot clip", but mentions nothing of the locks.

Thanks!

The MOLLE strap on the back of the sheath is s shade under 1" and threads snuggly through standard MOLLE systems like the one you have pictured./ The hard MOLLE clips like the ones you have on the RC3 sheath are 15/16" and also thread through standard MOLLE systems. Mike

We have just changed the way we offer the RC-3 package. Now it can be bought without the MOLLE back and with the MOLLE locks. I'm not sure any dealers have this option in stock at the present time since most everything is under the old part system we had, which included the MOLLE back but not the MOLLE locks. Anyway, it is offered both ways now. You can also buy the MOLE locks as an option.

I guess I won't be the first to suggest this but as I was familiarising myself with my new RC3 sheath options it struck me that if using the sheath without the security of the MOLLE back the knife could easily be secured by simply tying a loop of shock cord in the top right hand hole. This loop will catch on the finger guard if the knife was to come loose from the sheath and the knife will not come out. Your thumb can easily roll it over the entrance/exit of the sheath to disengage it. A similar effect would be achieved by use of a toggle and paracord (or shock cord).

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I hope the dealers correctly state which knife comes with which setup.

Just ask the company you order from what the package includes that you are ordering. Personaly I would want the MOLLE back with RC3 or RC4 but everybody has a particular way they want to carry. Mike

My RC-3 came with the MOLLE back on it and although I may not use it it's nice to have as an option. It also came with the belt clip so kudos to RAT for supplying both options with the knife .
