I've seen some very expensive knives made with this steel, I don't know anything about it, however. Is it a goog steel? What are the pro's and con's? Does it hold an edge, hard to sharpen, etc.???

Thanks

Dave

Usually, when you see a knife manufacturer advertise their knives this way(molyVanadium stainless), then it's because they do not want to disclose the type of steel used. And, ususally they do not want to disclose this info, because they are using some cheapo stainless. Not always, but usually.

Wow, Danbo

That's a bit of a shocker. I was thinking of coughing up over a thou for a knive I really like (well, the looks of, I mean). I first saw this particular knive in "Encylopedia of Knives." (can't spell any more). Anyway, I then ran across it for sell by a dealer on the "other" knive forum. Made in Germany, lots of silver, etc. etc. Well, it was only a passing fancy, my wife would kill me if I paid that much. I'll look around this forum more, I've seen some really nice knives here that I like.

Again, thanks

Dave

This could well be something like 440B steel. It's not terrible but innapropriate for an expensive knife.
It's interesting to note however, that just a tiny bit more carbon and you have 440C - which is common in high end knives.

As a german knife it's probably a european standard steel. But it would be more than a 440 since it has moly and vanadium, but it's still an unknown unless they specify.
