So,

Sal, Vince, Danelle, etc and fellow forumites.

What Spyderco would best utilize the serrations, be the ultimate Spydie to demonstrate the power of serrations, the most effective knife to be serrated in my pocket?

I ask because I am going to buy a fully serrated Spydie(or at least more than 50/50), as opposed to my all plain.

I was thinking of going with the Endura, but I am interested in all your thoughts on the subject.

One may want to keep an Eye out for my review of the Bob Kasper designed, Kevin Gentile modified AFCK and interview of Bob Kasper. Sorry about the wait, my review and interview should be online shortly, luckily Spark has graciously offered to do the pictures, look for it right here at BladeForums.com.

You can't go far wrong with a plain-edge Delica combined with a fully serrated Endura. One for the right pocket, one for the left pocket. Put the big toothy one in you checked baggage when you fly.

Eye,

I gotta say the Military. James is right about the old standby Endura, but if you want the ne plus ultra and 440V steel to boot, get a Military to demo those serrations.

I did NOT escape from the institution! They gave me a day pass!

I've never run into serrations yet that I didn't eventually bust some tips off and chip out some of the valleys. I even bust and chip pieces off the more-rounded Benchmade-style serrations. Remember, they're chisel-ground in, and very thin at the edge.

As a result, as awesome as a fully-serrated military sounds, I tend to suggest less-expensive alternatives. A fully serrated endura would be my first choice, I could beat it all I wanted, and not feel bad about chipping it or whatever. And it still cuts very very well.

Marion, I agree with Joe, The Endura is pretty hard to beat. The Delica if you prefer the smaller size. Both will provide overall cutting performance in a serrated knife that will surprize you. Not all serrations are created equal, in my opinion.

I second that emotion.....

Marion -- just be sure to get the ATS-55 Endura, rather than the softer AUS-6 like my older Endura II...

Thank you all.

The unspoken reason for the Endura in my mind was cost, as Joe eloquently put it.

Serrations are still in test with me, so I don't think I have it in me to fork over too much money for a blade I am feeling chancy about.

Also I want an excuse to buy an Endura. The old Endura was the first Spydie I purchased, so the warm fellings I have due to that combined with the Evolutionary changes make a hard package to beat.

But I am still open to suggestions if anyone else wants to weigh in.

I like James Mattis's logic: serrated Endura and plain Delica. But I do it the other way around, keeping the serrations on the smaller knife. But I also tend to carry a similarly small plain edged knife, either a Calpyso Jr. or a Benchmade Leopard cub in the shirt pocket.

Generally, my small blades get used more frequently than the large, and the plain edged more frequently than the serrated. So my usual three-knife carry load consists of...

1 large plain edge (Endura or AFCK)
1 small plain edge (Calpyso Jr. or Leopard Cub
1 small serrated edge (Delica)

If I were going to carry just two knives instead of three, I'd probably do like JKM, making the big one serrated and the small one plain.

It's wholesome and good to think about these things.

When I get my Police, it will be my large serrated carry. My smaller plain edge is either my Boker Delta, or the AG Russell One Hand I'm hopefully getting for my b-day this weekend (I'm keeping my fingers crossed!).
