Mommy EDC Issues...need some help

I bought my mother a small little Victorinox Tomo...She had it for a few months then tried to use it to open up a bag of mulch. she did not realize the blade was next to the nail file and used the nail file to open the bag! She said she got confused and could not find the knife blade...When I showed her where it was she said the knife was too small.

I then was on a Mission!
I showed her my Benchmade mini-Griptillian and she could not figure out how to open it and did not like it because it was too big.

I then showed her my Victorinox Cadet with a 2.5 inch blade and she said that's a good size but the back spring pressure was too high for her to get it out because the nail nick and her long manicured nails did not get along.

She then tried a Spyderco Delica and opened it backwards then could not figure out the back lock well and said it's to complicated.

Then I showed her a small bob Dozier fixed blade and said no it's too big I won't use a giant thing like that!

So I need a small folder over 2 inches under 2.5 inches
It needs to not have a lock!
Has a light back spring pressure
It needs a larger nail nick then a victorinox or a hole... thumb studs are too confusing
Maybe a friction folder might work. You guys have any ideas before I lose my mind?
This is a real world problem with non knife people because they don't know the locking mechanisms and some slip joints are just too hard to open and close for women with nails.

Opinel worked for my mom, she loved it. Easy to open/close, and the lock is actually quite intuitive for non knife people as it is so visible how it works by simply blocking the blade from closing.

That said, if your mother operates a vehicle, or even just has a cell phone, then any common lock shouldn't be too confusing to her at all. Most likely stubbornness is causing her to not WANT to learn how to properly operate these knives, so she very well might nix ANY knife you ever give her, unless you get her over that.

btw: what does your mom do for a living? sorta hard to believe she cant figure out how to use a knife. my 5 year old can work any knife i have!

I don't know your mother but it sounds to me like she is trying to tell you that she really doesn't want a knife at all.
 
My better half loves her Opinel that is her purse knife. Easy to open with no chipped nails, easy twist lock, and nice looking. It was a Valentines day gift so it's the one with the hearts all over it. I added a clear coat of Helmsman Spar urethane for water resistance as well as lubed the pivot. She uses it as a pastry and fruit knife, and package opener. So far so good.

lol what does she do? Nothing, nada, zip..has not worked since she got married and "retired" at 20!! She also hates driving.
 
I know you asked about a small folder but I went through a similar ordeal years ago with my grandmother. No folders worked for her due to hand strength problems from arthritis and her finger nails. We got about every type of folder you could imagine and she hated them all. I gave up and one of her friends gave her a Benchmade Bali-song. She loved it and had zero issues opening and closing it. It was plenty strong for her needs as at most she might cut open a bag of potting soil or cut some flowers with it
