I guess the pattern is the semi skinner not the drop point hunter.
Looks clean and well made, I like it.
Would have prefered another scale material (stag or micarta).

Lovely blade
Stag or micarta scale might give cleaner looks to this beautiful blade

That's a very attractive piece. I LOVE the look and feel of Ox horn (and think it looks great on this piece), but I have had bad experiences with the stuff in terms of shrinkage.

Very nice work - thanks for giving us a peek.

I keep coming back to this one. The photo and horn do it no favor, but the lines and proportions are muy bueno to my eyes. With amber stag, MOMO may have out-Lovelessed Loveless. A little jewel flying under the radar.

that's a gorgeous knife -- i love the horn scales and red spacers

Exactly, Atakach. The tang taper on this knife exemplifies why so many Loveless copies come up short for me--they have no taper (thicker at guard/thiner at the butt). George Herron, a great maker, made Loveless models with straight handles, which always somewhat disappointed me without me ever understanding exactly why. Actually, many Loveless hunters did not have this tang taper either, which I believe explains the bafflement as to their disparate levels of attractiveness to me. The accentuated taper on MOMO's Loveless copy really solves this mystery for me, and disproves the tenured axiom that old dogs cannot learn new tricks, though it has only taken 28 years.

Ken,
Your comment about Herron knives is not accurate.
Mr. Herron may have made some knives without a tapered tang (As did Loveless), but the majority of his knives were tapered and perfectly balanced. In my opinion, a more comfortable knife in the hand because of the weight and distribution. He made hunters, skinners, fighters, folders, sub-hilts, chute knives, oyster knives, chef's knives, steak knives and/or what ever his customers could convince him to make. He used handle materials that ranged from a basic micarta to rare ivories and woods. All the knives that came out of his shop were unique and extremely well made.
If I am not mistaken, Mr. Herron is the one that taught Loveless how to do the precision sauder of the guard to blade. (They are both from the early days of great knife makers so it would not surprise me if Herron learned something from Loveless as well.)
With all of that said, Herron did taper his knives and most were of his own design.
Take a look at the link below to see samples of his work.

Fliprfly,

I did not mean tapered tang in the conventional sense--tapered in top-view. I should of said side-view handle taper, with the handle/tang widest at the guard and narrowing rearward.

I've marveled at that link of Herron knives before. I give both makers their due as pioneers and great makers. I don't wish to compare them because it comes down to is personal preference of styles. My favorite style from either is the Loveless drop point hunter with guard only as opposed to the those with the rather massive bolsters. Without the bolsters Loveless more often seemed to fashion the handle profile that MOMO so elegantly copied. MOMO is one of the few copiers that has picked up on this particular Loveless handle profile, which is why so few copies have the magic for me.
