I made this knife for my mother, even though I doubt it will ever get used.

Her father died this last April, and I scavenged an old draw saw from the garage. I made this knife from the blade.

Gramps was an incredible man. He was an inspiration to me and all his grandchildren. He was the oldest living NASCAR driver before he died, but gave it up after five years (back in the 50's) to raise his six daughters. He raced (and beat) Lee Petty, who was Richard's dad.

So here is my mom's knife from his steel. (his # was 59 when he raced)

Thanks. I used to sit around and get him talking. He had a lot of stories and if I was patient, he would go on and on with one great story after another. I had him write them all down one Christmas for me. I now have a book that has a lot of his stories in it, written in his own hand.

What Will said, does not get much better than being able to make a knife like that
for someone special.
Ken.

The knife and the book, man what great keep sakes to be passed on to the next generation. I wish I had been smart enough to get my Granddad to write those stories down. Congratulations.

Your Grandpa sounds like an amazing man. I am sorry that he is gone. That is a really beautiful thing to do.
