Hi. Been researching these batons, and I'm quite sure its the one I want. I want experiences from you: if you had to buy one all over again, would you get this one? Are you happy with its performance? How durable is it? Any problems getting a positive lock-up as I have read here? Anything else?

Also...Where did you get yours, how much, and what do you use to carry it?

Thanks!

I have the Junior model- it's about 7" long closed. Too heavy for a keychain which is what I was hoping for, but I have no complaints about the Auto-lock system; it's solid and strong. Very neat. Mine is more like a blackjack that extends.

I have the 26" Autolock and several LEOs who train at my martial arts academy also favor them. I haven't had problems getting mine to lock. I like being able to pull it open without having to flick, snap, drop open it. Needless to say, closing it is also much easier. The only things I don't like are the slightly longer collapsed length, slightly greater weight, and the fact that there is a little play in the sections when it is extended---unlike the friction locking designs. However, I don't think the slight looseness makes a difference in performance.

When I'm really concerned about size and weight, I carry the 26" ASP airweight.

Dances: If I might pry; why do you have one? Just for the "cool" factor, or as a real weapon? I want one, but I've been buying too many toys lately! :D Hey, maybe if I got one, I could smack myself with it, to discipline myself! :D  :p That would teach me! Hehehe...
Also, how is the weight? Too heavy for EDC? How do you carry yours on your person?

That sounds like a discussion that's best left in W&C....:)

Depends on what sort of enviroment you anticipate using it, but the medium length ones are more managable.
We use the 21" ASP, after trialling all the manufacturers and lengths, this one seemed best all round for our needs. The longer models were prone to snagging walls and ceilings indoors when red mist and wild flailing started, and the closed length was akward to carry all day, especially covertly.
A lot of colleagues personalise the end caps with crests, numbers, etc. and the BatonSaver attachment is popular too.
Not keen on the airweight models, too little momentum. Only other thing I don't like about the ASP is the difficulty in closing it, impossible to do it discreetly, and leaves the end cap very scored after a while.

drjones,

I've trained at a Filipino Martial Arts Academy for a lot of years and we typically use sticks in the 26-30" range. Therefore, the 26" Autolock/ASP feel about right for me. I sometimes carry one because there are a lot of unsafe areas in Los Angeles. However, I've lately carried the 36" Livesay Whoop-Ass 1 stick or the Cold Steel crook top rattan cane for legal reasons.

My LEO friends use the Monadnock swivel carriers with their Autolocks. I just tuck it inside my belt at an angle. You need to have your belt a bit tighter with the heavier Autolock, which is one reason the Airweight is more pleasant to carry.

Zardoz is probably right that the 21" ASP Airweight would seem a bit light. However, if you can handle the extra length of the 26 incher, it has plenty of power. You can move it VERY fast and that compensates for the lighter weight. However, you should not use the Airweight for extensive heavy bag workouts because it isn't as heavy duty as the regular model. I train with a regular 26" ASP so when I switch to the lighter Airweight, it feels really quick in the hand.

Zardoz is also correct that you can't discreetly collapse the ASP and the tip cap will eventually get beaten up a little from pounding it on the ground.
