I am considering one of these two knives as my next fiddleback purchase. Would love to see some comparison photos if anyone has any available. Also, if there are any existing threads on these two similar knives I would love to see them.

Thanks!

I discussed both of these models in my post in this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...hts/page6?highlight=Models,+Tang+Types,+Steel

I like both models quite a bit, but I find myself using my Monarch more because I like the fact that the tip of the blade is located closer to the centerline of the blade than it is on the BC Jr.

Note: I modified the pommel end of the handle to a round butt on my Monarch as detailed in that post.

You can't go wrong with either one in my opinion. Keep us posted which one you choose.

I have a monarch and love it, though I've never held a BCJr. The blade geometry on the monarch is great, and I like the handle.

So, after doing a lot of research on both models, I think I prefer the handle on the BCJR and the blade geometry on the Monarch. It is a hard decision, but since I don't have the equipment to do Phil's handle modification I am going to try the BCJR first (there is one available that I like). Then, based on how I like it, maybe I'll get a Monarch later.

Then again, who am I kidding. The odds are I will own both within the next few months!

Thanks again for the link, Phil. I really appreciate it!

ncrockclimb,

It sounds like you have reasoned out your choice well for your uses. The BC Jr. will serve you well and it remains a popular model on the resale market if you change your mind later. I like the idea of a Monarch blade on a BC Jr. handle. That would be the best of both worlds to me. My Monarch handle modification is close, but not an exact rendition of how that would turn out.

I am glad that the link helped you to make an informed decision about which model best for you. Post some pictures and your thoughts on it when you get your BC Jr.

I have one of each. I've had the BCjr for a month and it's gotten a lot of use. It's a really comfortable handle and can be used for long periods of time without hotspots. I've only had the Monarch for a week now and I like the blade geometry and handle but as of now it doesn't seem like it would be as comfortable for extended use as the BCjr. I do also own an esquire, same blade geo as the Monarch just smaller, which makes a great small side kick to the BC or the BCjr.

Here's a few comp pics for you. I like my Monarchs very much. I just round off the edges in the back a bit with some sand paper, and it's comfortable for me. However, I don't really use it for extended periods of time. I just recently got the BC Jr in emerald burlap. The handle is very comfortable and would seem better suited for extended use.
