Just got some cash for my birthday ($150)...want to stop buying low priced knives for $20-30. Looking for a EDC fixed or folder 3.5 inches or less; good lock up & nice sheath. Used for utlity & back up SD. Looking forward to your great recommendations. Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving!

The Spyderco ATR is a really great folder, I believe it can be found in that price range. I really don't know of any good fixed blades in that range that I have personal experience with. I'm sure many custom makers could provide you with a good one for under $150.

Benchmade, 550 or 94x series would be great, and under $150 (shop around, of course). any of the upper-tier Spydies, would be great as well. Like Roadrunner said, the ATR would be a good choice. be sure to let us all know what you finally choose!

You might investigate the Al Mar Sere 2000 if you can carry a 3.6" blade.

You can get a custom Wally Hayes neck knife for $150.00. You can get a LOT of custom fixed blades in that price range. One fun thing you can try is go over to a site like KnifeArt - they have a search button in dollar increments. You might be blown away at what your $150.00 can get you.

...And if you can't carry over 3.5 inch blade, the Al Mar Nomad would be a great choice, as its' blade is about 3 inches...VG-10 steel, G-10 scales, dual stainless liners, etc...

When you have your "short list" together, use the "Search" function here on BF to see what other's experiences with a given brand/knife has been. For example, just before I looked at this thread, I was at another thread with MANY negative quality-control comments on one of the brands mentioned above in this thread.

Mr. Winston has a few blades up for sale in the custom sale section in the $140-$160 range. They are some great customs with excellent fit and finish.
