Whats the point of a money clip?

I know they hold the money but what else are they useful for? lol

They keep crap from floating all over your pocket. If you have a clip with no magnet you can stick your hotel key in there with the bills so that does not rattle around either.

It's called organization. :)

BTW, if you are keeping all your money in your wallet, which is carried in your rear pants pocket, you should come with me to New Orleans.

It's much more compact than a folding wallet. I have a wallet with just 2 card-sized pockets and a money clip on the outside. If you don't like having bulky stuff in your pockets, it's great.

Why does it need to be useful for something else? It's called a money clip, and it clips paper money together, I can't think of too many other things I would want it to do. Mine occasionally gets a business card or receipt stuck in it, but not often.

For me, the best thing about a money clip is that it encourages you to get rid of, or file, receipts and other detritus that gets stuck in a regular wallet. Plus a back injury taught me that having a thick wallet under one cheek is not good for the spine.

A thick wallet in your back pocket is not good for your fiscal or physical health. Using a money clip enables you to carry a smaller wallet and separate out the bulk caused by all those ones you are carrying to the local dance club.

It also prevents bills from slipping out of your pocket after you reach deep inside to pull out some change. Bills are organized by denomination [except my wad, it's all ones!!]

It also looks cool when you have a wad of 50 one's, or in my case 2 one's and a stack of paper cut to the size of paper currency.

Try that without a money clip..........................

Money clips are tremendously comfortable. Unfortunately, I became uncomfortable pulling out all my cash each time I had to pay for something; at least with a wallet the bills are hidden.

Same here. Now I leave all that junk elsewhere (or toss it).

I know what you mean. I like to keep my smaller bills on the outside, with the larger towards the middle. That way I can take the money out, and peel off what I need without exposing the big bills. I don't usually carry a lot of cash unless I know I'm going to need it though, it seems to disappear quicker. If I am carrying a bit of cash, especially travelling, I usually keep the bulk of it with a heavy rubber band around it so I don't have to get it all out at once. I keep the cash stash in another pocket sometimes too.

My money clip does more than hold money. I had Lifter make me a custom leather pocket organizer that has a money clip on one side and holds a Fisher space pen and a Leatherman Micra on the other side.

That sounds awesome. Do you have any pictures?

Sorry for the delay in responding, but here's some pics:

The money clip/ pocket organizer is made of stiff leather wet formed to hold a Leatherman Micra and a Fisher Bullet Space Pen in a small package with a Ti money clip attached to the back for holding your paper money.

In the accompanying photos, you can see that I've attached a small Photon type LED light to the lanyard ring of the Micra so in one small package I have a multi tool, light and all weather pen along with my cash. The ultimate in urban survival packs.

The whole assembly is slightly narrower than a folded US bill and fits comfortably in the pockets of all types of pants from Levis to a nice suit.

In the pics you can see the pocket organizer pictured next to a Surefire E2e-SG and a smoothed out Buck 172 Mayo TNT. This might be a typical EDC combo when I'm wearing work pants (dressier). In a pair of Jeans I'm more likely to have the money clip (goes everywhere) with an Aviator A2 and a Microtech Socom Elite :0

It's a handy device and more useful than any money clip I ever used before getting this one made.

This was made for me by Dave Abrahmson, AKA Lifter. It's an awesome custom piece and Dave's highly recommended.

Regarding the rubber band, I read that a rubber band around your wallet can make it more difficult to steal. There is more friction, and that tends to raise the alert.

It's not a real Mayo, it's aBuck 172 TNT that I rounded and smoothed out the rough edges and then put a nice blasted finish on. It's sweeter than when Buck finished it, but not nearly as smooth as a real Mayo (had to buy one to make sure :)).

I carry a money clip that my uncle gave to me. It was one he recived in officer training int he Air FOrce. It has a small blade on one side and a small file on the other. So I have a very useful moneyclip that is also a knife! :)

I want to get one of these soon.

I usually use a money clip when I use one of my credit card wallets. I see it as a more secure means of carrying my bills. I have about 10 of the damn things! My favorites are by Colonel Littleton and Tiffany.
