Asking people what they make is typically not an appropriate question. Knives are a hobby but not a source of income for me. Curiousity and a sense of entrepreneurship have built to the point where I have to ask. What kind of money can or do people make in the knife industry?

This questions spans from the custom maker to the full blown kershaws/spydercos/gerbers of the world. I am not asking about the employees but more on a level from the owner of the company. I met some of these people at blade and was suprised to learn many had other jobs.

I figured this was a good place to post this question since it seems difficult to offend anyone here. Jackass repsonses are expected!:D

A brave and interesting question!

And one that does not belong in Community.

It is clearly spelled out that discussing knives or anything related to knives is not allowed in this particular forum. Moving to General.

Hey b.c.
Living in western minnesota, I would hate to have to depend on selling knives as my only source of income. I think knives are a lot more popular in the southern states as are knife & gun shows, flea markets, farmers markets, etc. Maybe things will change eventually. I have read that knife collecting is a fast growing hobby especially with the younger people. Unless you are really out beating the bushes for business--I wouldn't quit your day job.

with the ease of online ordering with places like ebay, I could imagine it would be terribly hard to sell knives in an actual store. I've yet to find a knife store that could sell knives as cheap as they can be found on ebay.

Just today I saw a store selling a mini griptilian for $90. I bought mine online for $60. With having an online store you have no overhead and often time never have to actually handle the merchandise
