Some of you may be wondering how I acquired an antique khukuri when my wife is no longer working and our income has been reduced. Some of you, especially those who donated khuks for auction for my benefit, may feel puzzled or even betrayed.
The khuk in question cost me $31.00 plus shipping. This can be be verified. Probably the bargain of the decade, as far as I'm concerned.
Now to the heart of the matter: A few days ago I received a substantial monetary settlement for injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in July of 2000. I do not need, nor will I keep any money that Uncle sends me from the auctions. I had planned to quietly return it to Uncle and ask him to donate it to a charity of his choice, but circumstances have required me to make this public.
I do not have the words to express my deep appreciation to those of you who donated khukuries for my benefit, as well as those who bid on them. You have demonstrated that good will is not dead in our world.
My wife, Hope, and I are still badly in need of all the good wishes, thoughts, prayers and smoke that can be sent our way. She is still in the hospital. I don't know if this is too late to reverse the auctions, or what course may be taken. Someone else will have to determine that.
Awaiting your replies,
