Money to burn, and Sebenzas on my mind!

I can't take it anymore! I have read to many glowing reviews of the CRK Sebenzas that I am seriously considering one. I've been re-bitten with the knife bug, and maybe bitten harder than the first time, thanks to the wonders of the world wide web letting me converse with all you fine folk. So what should I get? I'm thinking the large Sebenza. I'm seeing prices around $325 or so from the Knife Center. How long will it take for me to get one of these? If I place an order will I have to wait for mine to be made? Any advice on ordering one of these gems is greatly appreaciated. I started with a Gerber EZ Out, then a BM AFCK and 710HSSR, and now I have a Spyderco Wegner on order, when will the madness stop?!

Lucky for me my girl friend collects handmade BASKETS, so she can't pick on me.

See if you can't get your hands on one of the NICA limited ed. Tanto sebs. If you like Tantos, that is.

He is very helpful. My wife even bought me a Sebenza from him.

I was checking out his Sebenza display, and also handled Dennis's own personal Sebenza (large). I always had an opinion that the Sebenza was the best production knife in the world...and I was reminded of that!

It had always seemed too much to pay for a knife...but now I'm strongly thinking about just SAVING up for one. If you buy one good Sebenza, at about $300 a pop, it can't be more expensive than buying a great number of other knives. And it seems that knife really stands up!

IMO if you get this knife, you can't go wrong.

OH, I don't know about what James said. You could buy 3 magnas or impulses. A lot of people around here (including myself) are ape**** over those knives. Excuse me now, I have to duck, incoming flames........

If you have money to burn, go for the Sebbie, Dude!

Then you realize that if you've spent ~$300 on a Sebbie, buying an Impulse would not make such a great difference to your budget.

If you elect to just burn the money, you can send it to me. I have a teenager who operates a free money burning facility and is always looking for more fuel.

Gerber, BM, Spydie ... what a familiar narrative.

But w/out such a "maturing journey," we wouldn't be able to fully appreciate the 'BENZ, now would we?

WadeF -- plain Sebbies can usually be found for immediate delivery. Since the prices are set, the only difference is really in shipping, which won't be more than a buck or two, either way. So why not support one of the smaller good guys here on the forum, like Dennis Wright or James Mattis? Check em out!

As for size: if you already like bigger blades, go w/the large. If you like 3" +/- blades, then go w/the small. Can't go wrong either way!

Wade, I suggest you buy a sebenza from a dealer if you just want a plain. If you order directly from CRK you will have to wait at least 3 months. However, ordering direct you have more options; dual thumbstuds, engraving, any preferences you may have.

Wade,
If your interested, I just put a Tanto Sebenza on the for sale forums. $350 delivered. Check it out!

I have to admit I've been won over by the small sebenza. I was a little disappointed at first in the way that it opened (kinda slowly and painfully at first) but these knives are really fine cutting machines. The one thing most nonknife people comment on when I show them the knife is how light it is. It's comfy to carry and will slice the beejesus out of things. I can't tell you how much cutting I've used this for in the past several weeks and, amazingly, it's still shaving sharp! And they really are a beautiful little machine, put together like a swiss watch.

I'm eyeing a large one now.

WadeF,

I also recommend Dennis Wright. I bought my first sebenze from Dennis. His customer service is as nice as the sebenza.

If you want a quality knife vs quantity of knives I think you should go for the Small Sebenza, perfect dailey carry size.

But be warned, you are on a very expencive path. The next step is customs. You can never go back.
