Saw my first summer movie yesterday, Mongol. It is historical fantasy based on the little we know about the childhood and youth of Temudjin, AKA Ghengis Khan. If you like swords and horses and wide open spaces, you need to see this. The trailers do not do it justice.

A few things I learned:

  • Tadanobu Asano is better than John Wayne.
  • Khulan Chuluun is better than Susan Hayward.
  • Bayertsetseg Erdenebat is also better than Susan Hayward.
  • Temudjin is Mongol for Kami.

Sounds like a great movie and being "better than John Wayne" is a tall order.

Can't wait to see it. Thanks for the review.

Better than John wayne??

that is one of the only things even CHUCK NORRIS cant brag!!!

UNBELIEVER!!!!!

in today's politically correct liberal world of wonder, it is perfectly acceptable for an actor of an asian or african origin to play such a role, barack would make an excellent temujin, and keep him out of trouble instead of his bid for the black house. ('white house' is so yesterday). positive role re-enforcement of course prohibits a european derived actor for either the mongol or western roles. of course hillary has been studying to be the ghengis khan for years, is currectly looking for a new job, and would also be a great politically correct choice if only she were not caucasian. maybe they can come up with an alternately racial ancestor?

p.s. - while NOBODY will be as good as the Duke in these roles, i personally would vote for jackie chan in either movie.

Thanks for your original, thoughtful contribution, but my time is valuable and so is yours. Don't you have some spam to write?

Kronckew I have to agree with you and about Jackie Chan especially.
Although Mr. Wayne was an excellent actor and portrayed his many characters very well he himself wasn't at all politically correct like so many of his character's. Mr. Wayne is often made fun of among us ndn folks because in real life like on the silver screen Mr. Wayne did not like ndns.;)
There's a particularly funny song in the ndn movie, "Smoke Signals" about John Wayne's teeth.:D :D :D :D

:D are they plastic or are they steel?

they're a bit wrong tho, one of my favourite movies is 'the outlaw josie wales', at the end the 'indians' come charging out to save him & his family from the redleg cavalry. the injuns sometimes win.

LOLOL, yeah, I'd really like to get the CD, tape, or whatever form of media the complete song is on.;) :D I suspect it's in an album and the sometimes bad thing of buying an album is the rest of the songs are a flop although I have to say that's seldom true with ndn songs if you like them to begin with.:)

Yup, you're right. The Plain's Tribes won big at Greasy Grass, y'all know it as the Little Big Horn. What a lot of folks don't know though is Custer was an adopted member of the Cheyenne People by marriage or something.(IIRC) :o When the Cheyenne women found Custer's body they used their sewing awls to clean his ear's out so he could hear better in the next world. Custer had also promised never to attack the Cheyenne again as well, again IIRC.
Here's where I found the excerpt below....
"Two Cheyenne women who had been his prisoners after Washita looked at him and said, "Well look at that, here's Custer!" While they were looking at him, some Sioux came by mutilating bodies and started on Custer, but the Cheyenne women said, "You can't. He's one of us because he had an Indian wife and a child and he is part of the people."
So the men left. The women took an awl and punched through his ears because he had obviously not heard what had been said to him a decade earlier and they wanted him to hear better in the afterlife."

the movies never tell you details like that, wonder why. ;)

he also had a pack of greyhounds, collected sabres, but had his men leave them behind to lighten their load, not expecting to need them. and decided not to take his gatling guns along as they'd slow him down. apparently his favourite sabre was a rehilted old european broadsword blade he'd taken from a southern gentleman during the war between the states.
