ok guys I was told that the benchmade monochrome might be a really good knife for me to add to my collection since i'm just getting started with knives!! any opinions on it?? I want it for a edc that won't break!! so is it good and is there anything else that would be better around the same price range??

Thanks guys!!

got the tenacious and love it if you tell me the monochrome is just as good then benchmade will sell a knife!!

I consider the Monochrome to be an excellent value and a good knife overall.
Monochrome pluses:
- Very solid, no blade play of any type. Very reliable frame lock.
- Takes a very fine edge.
- Excellent edge retention. In my side-by-side testing cutting manila rope, it had better edge retention than either 8Cr13MoV or 440C.
- Excellent design.Very good balance. Excellent blade shape. Very secure grip.
I carry my Monochrome more often than my Minigrip.

Minuses:
- Not US made (Made in Taiwan). (But then neither are most of the alternatives in the $35 and less price arena.)
- Doesn't have G10 handles.

knarfeng pretty much covered it. I was, and still am, very impressed with my Monochrome. It can get a scary sharp edge and holds it decently, and it locks up very nicely. Seeings how you already have a Tenacious, I'd also recommend checking out Kershaw's Skyline which is around the same price but made in the USA.

Take a trip to your walmart and check out the Od-1, Skyline, and Zing. They are great budget models.
All are...
Made in USA
$40 or less
Sandvik 13C or 14C, depending on DOB
Tip Up option (standard on Od-1)
Either G10 or Polyamide handles (frame lock on Od-1 with G10 nonlocking side)
Backed with a great warranty

You can't go wrong with whichever one you get, good luck in your purchase.

All the knives above are good. If you want a monochrome get it. I love mine in fact because of this thread I am going to carry it today.
