Hey everyone. I hope all is well with all of you. anyway is a benchmade Monocrome worth 42$? That what this store the sportsmans warehouse is selling them for. I might beable to get it slightly cheaper online but my credit card is maxed, and plus shipping it will probably equal out. but is it a good knife? and do I have better options in that price range?

You can find monochromes for under $30.

Best buy in that price range is the Spderco Native you can find at most WalMarts for just under $40.

The Monocrome is a very good knife indeed! The lockup is rock solid, bladesteel is excellent. It's only downside is maybe ergonomics, I found the handles a bit narrower than it shold be, but YMMV. Well worth the price!

BTW you there are a lot of good knives under $40, for example the Kershaw Storm, the Spyderco Native mentioned by spyderknut, the Ka-bar Doziers, the Buck Hilo and Mantis, The Byrd line from Spyderco and the Benchmade Pika.

My personal choice would be the Monocrome or the Storm Tanto.

I just acquired a monochrome in a trade today...and I am really impressed with it. I love the weight, the feel of it...it has a nice clean design, I can see this quickly becoming my favorite EDC.

IMO, the Monochrome is one of the best knife buys in the $50 and below price range. The fit is excellent on mine, the action smoothe, the frame lock engages perfectly; I was surprised. The only thing I would change about it is change the bead-blast to a stone-washed or satin finish on the blade.

I've had one as an EDC for almost 2 years now, and I really like it. The handle could be a it thicker, but I wouldn't change it. One of the things I like about it is that it fits into a pocket really well, and is unobtrusive. I've even worn it with dress pants. The blade takes a good edge and holds well. People tend to see it and not bug out as much as when I pull out some of my other knives. The oone thing I don't like about it is the blade is 3.05 inches. I live in MA, so 3" is the legal max. So, every time I sharpen it, I take a little off the tp to make it legal. Anyway, I rotate my other EDC often, but I always seem to have a monochrome in my pocket. Right now its a plain edge, my first was a combo. I would get the monochrome.

Don't know much about this particular knife, but in this price range, I'd get either a Kershaw Leek, Camillus Heat or a Spyderco Native.

I hope you enjoy the knives you´ve mentioned. But the question is not, which knives at $ 42,00 are worth the money.

BTW, the full steel handle of the mono is a tiny bit different to the Camillus or Native. Two of the knives you´ve mentioned have an assisted opening system.

So, if a full steel simplicity knife is aked, the Monochrome is right. If it is comfort in hands, is personal but there are some ppl. saying, that it could be a bit larger.

A monochorme, even though it could be found online for $30, is well worth the $42 that you would have to pay at your local brick and mortar store.

i paid $50 for mine at Backwoods... didn't think about going to knifecenter or somewhere online for some reason, i guess it was a bit of an impulse buy

i like the knife a lot, it opens easy and is very thin, althought the first one i had the thumbstuds broke off(within a couple days)... it was a display model and probably had a lot of traffic or something, they had started to come unscrewed before that. i'm guessing they got torqued too much or something... this is really a problem since they are what holds the blade in place when it's open

i carried it for a few months and liked most everything about it, but i wasn't all that thrilled with the edge retention. i've upgraded quite a bit since then, but not really because i needed to :)
