I just purchased a used Monode M-45 etcher for a low price on ebay but do not have any idea how to use it. This unit came with what looks like a lot of extras.

If anyone has one of these units I would be interested in picking your brain and learning how to use it. I have also heard that there are some household chemicals that can be used with the etcher?

Grateful for any help.

Yes I have looked at this sight and have many of the items. Problem is there are no instructions or procedures on how to use the equipment.

Thank You
Don

Here is a link that will give you a tutorial on etching by Tracy Mickley: http://mickleyknives.com/html/etching_tutorial.html

You will have to check the link later because right now the network it lives on is down for a bit.

It is not specific to your machine. However, it may help you understand the process enough to figure out your machine. They all operate generally the same way.

This is where I would start:

Call or Email them and tell them you need the instruction manual. They will most likely email you back the PDF . I do this regularly with tools and equipment I but second hand. Manufacturers would rather have a satisfied second owner of a product, than an unhappy user who says," Brand X make junk, I never could figure out how to use it." Besides, the instructions have order forms for supplies, and there is always something in them that when you read it,you say, " Gosh, I didn't know that!"

I have viewed the PDF files and do not see any that provide instructions telling how to use the unit. I will call the company and see if they have anything.

If you search in this forum, you'll find complete instructions on using them. Look under my name, or Fitzo. It's been a few years but the info is good.

Some other forum had etcher info but I can never remember the name of it. Maybe Mike Fitzgerald can help as he wrote most of it.

Martronics/Etch-o-matic has some video tutorials on its web site that will show you how to mark your blades. They use their machines, but all of the brands work in the same manner.

Download the Mark 300 Manual from Marking Methods. Pages 3, 4, and 5 tell you the steps you need to take to mark your blade.

Tracy Mickley made a tutorial on etching. I can't get the link to open tonight, but it may just be my crappy computer here at work. Here's the link, perhaps it will open for you; http://www.mickleyknives.com/html/etching_tutorial.html
All I could get was Google's cached version, without the pictures; http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cach...ley+etching+tutorial&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=us
