I finally finished my monster chopper. If you remember my first thread it's forged from 5160.Here are a few pictures of it in action.http://
Razor sharp paper cutter.

Shaves arm hair like a straight razor.

Bites deep.

One swing in a small pine.

4"hardwood,no problem.

I really like it. So out of curiosity what hardness is it? I only ask to gauge the ability to shave after chopping. Aso what's the thickness on that beast?

It's a hair over 1/4" at the handle tapering to 1/8" at the tip.I didn't test the rockwell but I normalized it three times and also quinched it 3 times.A new file would barely mark it as quinched. Then it was tempered at 400 degrees for an hour. You still can't sharpen it with a file but a few strokes on a loaded strop is all it takes.

This was a test piece to see how far I could push a big heavy chopper with a razor edge and still have the edge hold up under heavy use.So far I love it.

Here is a picture of the just forged blade next to a Condor 18" Eco Light to show the size.http://

Great stuff buddy that looks an awesome piece and very refreshing to see someone really using what they have made instead of posed photo's just for self promotion !;)

That is one sweet chopper. That was one swing into the pine eh? Damn that blade is buried. What is the weight? If I missed it my apologies...BTW the handle looks sweet too!!!

i really like the nice, simple design.

looks like an awesome performer too.

well done mate!

Sorry,I don't have any accurate way to measure weight but it is close to my 2 lb hammer just by feel.

WOW! That big fella is like a having the strength of a Belgium draft horse with the precision of a Tenesee Walker.

I think it's ugly as all get-out, but in my world "function" is beauties master - not eloquent design and this is one functional "knife(?)".

Well done - especially on the metalurgy. Excellent all around.
