This is by J. Neilson and is a variation on his Dark Beast Bowie. I asked that it be coal forged and the forging marks be left on the unpolished portion of the blade. Also, the handle is desert ironwood, my first knife with this popular material.
It is 7.5" long, 2.5" wide, and 3/8" thick, with a convex edge. It feels like it will be one heck of a chopper. (amusingly my only other knife by J is a Springbok handled Papoose, a tiny knife I use as a letter opener)

Fit and finish are excellent, the mating of guard and blade is practically invisible. Black liners between the slabs and tang add a nice touch. The wood has a lot of figure and the coffin hande offers a solid grip. Too bad it's raining or I'd go use it on some fallen trees.

Yeah that should be one heck of a chopper and a very impressive pie server ;)

All kidding aside that looks like one heck of a knife. It kind of reminds me of a knife in the TV mini-series Lonesome Dove. Big Zway (a buffalo hunter) stabs this other guy on an Arkansas river whiskey boat, for looking at this woman.

Dude, that is one stout, broad-bladed tough-looking bowie. I like it. Very cool knife with tons of character.

Cheers,

Roger

J. makes AWESOME stuff and that Dark beast is one Ive longed for awhile... Thats a great variation of it.
Beauty and the Beast :footinmou ;)

Man, I thought that the Winkler I just got was wide.
In drafting this knife, I would have thought that this blade is way too wide on a knife like this.
This is very nicely done! I like this.
