Month-Early Birthday Presents: How'd I Score?

I haven't been posting as much on here lately, mostly because football season has once again begun around here in Ohio (well, conditioning and lifting and plyometric practice started back around May, but that's besides the point) so I'm sorry if I missed any posts, threads, etc., related to this information.

I received an early birthday present in the form of an order confirmation that my grandparents had ordered for me some new knives for me as a pre-2-a-day pick me up (I have practice on my true birthday anyways). In a few days, the big brown UPS truck should be delivering me a black-coated Benchmade Dejavoo plain edge and a Buck Hartsook neck knife; I'm really looking forward to having some new EDCs to throw in the lineup.

My question is, how do these knives stack up? Quality, performance, ergonomics, carry, everything...I'm very curious about the opinion in general in contrast to my own opinion once I receive them. Thanks for your help.

God bless you, America, our Allies, and our men and women overseas.

Wade

I don't have much experience with either of those knives, but I figured I'd post and say "happy birthday" anyway.

PS - You have awesome grand parents.

I hear the buck is really small but it is meant to be a neck knife and is made from s30v with the bos heat treat......ive been tempted to get one myself because it is so economical.

Is the dejavoo the large or small? I have a large satin bladed and ive been edc it for the past 3-4 months. I love this knife. I've had no problems with the s30v but i dont beat on it either. the handle and ergonomics fit me perfectly and even though it is a fairly larg folder the clip is well designed and it just melts away in my pocket. There are times when i need to check to make sure its there and that is strange for a 4 in bladed folder. The think you will probably notice about the knife is that it is crazy smooth to open. You dont need to use the spyderhole on it you just need to flick your wrist and it should open.

All in all i think you did quite well on your birthday.... you should not be at all dissappointed.

oh and happy birthday

Definitely nice B-day presents---sounds like you have some nice folks too.

Does your campus at least allow you to be knife armed???

The dejavoo is a really nice knife, it has Benchmades best liner lock, which they did well on but it isn't nearly as good as their axis, the blade has a perfect weight it flips right open with a flick.

Thanks for all the opinions and help. I have great grandparents, but they live about two hours away and I don't see them nearly as much as I'd like. On another note, I handled a Hartsook at the Fin, Feather, & Fur Outfitters booth up at Camp Perry during the Service .45 stages of the national matches; it is small, but it seems to have its uses. Got to hold the Dejavoo at the Ashland store for the Fin, but didn't have any real time to stick around because I was having dinner with those grandparents. :D Again, I appreciate the opinions, assistance, and kind words.

God bless you, America, our Allies, and our men and women overseas.

Yep, nice grandparents. My family isn't quite so approving of my habit.
Don't know about the Buck, but the 740 is great. When you pick it up, you are shocked at how light it is for it's size. It's smooth contours makes for a very comfortable feel in the hand or pocket. The fold-over clip allows it to ride deep so that the clip is the only thing showing. The drop-point S30V blade opens VERY smoothly, and has great cutting geometry. The titanium liner locks up nice and tight. The spyderhole type of opening is easy to use, but your thumb is likely to catch on the front of the scales until you get the feel for it. It is a nice, easy to carry knife, but I would save it for lighter duty use. It just isn't built very heavily.
