I know this isn't a knife specific question however. I am planning a trip to montreal to help teach a class, I train everyday and currently I train with a spear, are there any issues with me training with a spear in a park early in the morning or will Montreal SWAT show up

I don't know squat about Canadian law, but from a "don't rock the boat/push the limit" perspective, could you just go to the Montreal equivalent of Lowe's or Home Depot and buy a relatively inexpensive 1"/1.25"/1.5" 8 ft (or probably a metric equivalent there) wood closet bar to use? No transport issues, no pointy end to create concern with the men in red? That's what a local (Austin TX) martial arts group used when they were practicing en masse in their parking lot next door to where I worked (the school moved when their lease expired). There would be 3 - 10 on any given evening working through routines.

Well I live in Montreal, and my guess would be, worst case scenario is you freak out an old lady, she calls the cops and they ask you to stop. You'll probably get some looks, but I can't see anything worse then that.

I just got back from montreal last sunday. From what i can tell you could be arrested for carrying a weapon. Most i would do is a SAK or a leatherman. I will recomend that you go to Peels Pub on peel street though. My dog could beat the door guy at scrabble but the food is good and cheap and you can get a 9.99 pitcher. Or if your going with the entire class they have 140 ounce pitchers for less than 20 i think
