Mood Opening (OK, this is just SILLINESS!)

Sometimes when I receive a knife in the mail I don't open it right away if I'm not in the mood. Am I alone?

I often have things shipped to work. Well, FRANKLY, sometimes I'm having a BAD DAY at work and when I receive a package that I know is something good I JUST WON'T OPEN IT because my bad mood will ruin the pleasure of it.

The same thing goes if I've got a lot on my mind or if I've been talking to my buddy about GUNS for the last 30 minutes.

When I receive a package I have to be "ready" to open it. I try to get "psyched" up for it. Often-times I'm "ready" when it arrives and I just rip it open.

I just love getting new knives so much that I'm careful not to ruin it because of outside interference.

For example, a box has been sitting on my coffee table for 3 hours. It contains my very first Benchmade Brand Bali-Song. (I had one from before Benchmade bought it and, regretfully sold it.) I bought this because of the itch I had for my old knife. I need to be prepared for this, but I spent a day at a computer seminar. I gotta get all the computer schit out of my head first. I've been drinking and chit-chatting with friends on the internet and the forums for the last 3 hours to get myself in a good mood and ready.

I'll open it in about a half-hour.

Anyone with me on this?

(Crap. I was going to post a funny poll, but I must have missed a check box. Bummer.)

I have waited up to a few hours before trying to get my mind off of lifes worries before opening a new knife. Your right, it does ruin it if your not in the mood :)

Heck no! I'm standing waiting for the mailman/ups guy to come meet him and the front deck, have the box half open by the time im in the house, im like a kid at Christmas.

I don't believe you!:D (about the "Heck no!" part.)

Aw, come on! If you just got in a fight with your girlfriend/wife or just got a traffic ticket or had an argument with your boss or a customer wouldn't you WAIT until you cooled off and relaxed to open your new knife? WOULDN'T YOU?

I think you would.

I would.

Since I have packages sent to me via "General Delivery", I have to pick them up at my local Post Office. I wait 'till I get the package home to cut it open. (Fortunately I live only 6 blocks away from the Post Office.:).).

I agree! Sometimes 'the wait' is worth more than the actual opening & enjoying! Don't know if I could wait 3 hours though! If I come home from work & a package is waiting, I will set the package down near my favorite recliner, go get comfortable clothes on (old sweat shirt, blue jeans & slippers), grab a soda or beer, turn on the TV, get all comfortable in my chair, take out my EDC & neatly cut open the package. Read any written material included, then carefully pick up my new aquisition. Open - close - open - close - OK it works fine! Or remove it from its sheath, admire it - put it back in its sheath - etc.. Then comes the staring period; looking for any imperfections! None! I'm on cloud 9!
:D :D

Ya see, now that would just make it WORSE for me. Because when I get that little "slip" on my door and have to go pick something up; after having to deal with traffic and the incompetent PO employees to GET the package I'm grumpy by the time I get home.

But if that's the norm for you and you're USED to having to go get it, I can see how you could get "psyched" while you went to go get it.

I, usually, have things shipped to my office so there's always someone there to sign for the package. I have a lot of spare time at work and my knives don't frighten people at work so it's pretty nice to do it that way.

I highly recommend getting knives shipped to where you work. It's a GREAT way to break-up the day. The only thing is that it can be tough if your busy and what you REALLY want to do is play with your knife when you have real work to do.

You had me at "favorite recliner"!:D

Ahhhh, the ritual. Comfortable clothes, beverage, TV. Me too.
Bottle of RemOil nearby. And, PLEASE, don't talk to me during this moment!

The funny thing is that I do this even with a CHEAPO $20 CRKT discontinued model. Everyone gets equal treatment!

Isn't it also funny how other people in the household (girlfriend) don't understand the moment - you're obsession?

"Don't talk to me right now, please. I'm concentrating on something.":D

Oh Yeh! At a moment like this, my dog better not come over to my recliner & suggest taking him for a walk! I won't even get up to feed him 'til I'm done up there on cloud 9!:D

I experience none of this crazy mood stuff, the moment that package gets into my room, I rip it open (with a knife, of course :D).

Then once the box is open, the knife is the centre of my world. I am one with the knife. I open the knife slowly and carefully and admire its (hopefully) beautiful construction. Then for the rest of the day, I open/close or sheath/unsheath the knife whenever I have free time. This most likely annoys my friends.

I have some Christmas knives coming soon... Can't wait.

Hell, I was in heaven 3 months ago... got 3 at once...

xmas this year consists of me getting *5* spyderco knives in the next 2 weeks... Meerkat, endura, and 3 salsaa

hell no, if it's a knife that I'm waiting for, my usual grumpy mood get a quick turnaround.
