Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with either the Crazy Crow Jim Bowie Alamo Knife, or the "Moore Bowie Knife" from Grey Owl Indian Crafts, I was lookin around for a so called traditional or classic looking Bowie Knife, although a lot of consensus seems to be that the first real bowie was little more than a large Butcher Bladed Knife, but I think y'all get what im askin, thanks guys

The two knives look identical. You don't get much of a bowie knife for those prices. Is this something you plan to use, or hang on the wall? Use the search feature. I think there was a thread on bowie knives recently with several good recommendations. You are correct that no one really knows what the "original" bowie knive looked like, and that most of the knives in general use on the frontier were very similar to what we would today call a butcher knife. Green River makes some excellent replica knives in your price range. Those would be both more authentic and probably better knives. Old Hhickory is another brand of traditional "butcher" and skinning knives. And reasonably good quality carbon steel for the price.

At the price they sell them at, I wouldn't really trust them.

Here's the Crazy Crow Jim Bowie Alamo Knife:

Here is what may be one of the original bowie knives:

Here's a picture of the knife that the ones you're looking at are patterned after:

At the price they're selling them at, it couldn't hurt too much to buy one to try out. They are the only copies of the Bart Moore Bowie Knife that I'm aware of.

Nixelpix, and Coyote thanks for your help and opinions, as to the price and quality issues, yeah I figured about the same as what you guys said for the prices that they are offered yet, I don't see either as being made from a good quality carbon steel, and as for use purposes, they could always be practice runs on sharpening and just kind of the cool factor for having a replica of the Moore. Another plan I had was to try one out and use it as a guide when I get everything finished up to start forging ones myself, I like the looks and figure it couldn't hurt to have one to feel and look at close up for a decent guide, thanks for your hrlp again guys I appreciate it.
