I had heard allot about Moore Maker so I though I would give them a try. I purchased the #2301 Buffalo stockman and to say the least, I was very impressed!!!

Now Moore Makers knives are made for them by Queen and Camillus. I had heard that the Camillus ones were not quite as nice. This is believable considering that their quality control is usually not very good (at best). It has always been that way (more so in recent years). Queen has always has been pretty diligent in their quality control department (for the most part). Well I decided that despite Camillus' reputation that I would give it a try. I spoke with Dave Moore (very friendly, courteous and "personable") and He assured me that if I had any problems, or was not happy he would remedy it.

Well when I first received these knives all I could say was......WOW!!!!

These were real beauties!!! The fit and finish were excellant, the Buffalo handles were very shiny, well "executed" very tasteful!!! The 1095 blades had "razor" sharp edges that did not need any "touching up" whatsoever. Now the blades are at a 56 rockwell (+ or -1), but when you consider the wisdom for a lower blade heat treat it makes allot of sense! You can strop the blade on a belt, or a saddle while out in the field!! At 56 rockwell it will hold a decent edge, but be easy to sharpen, not that's thinking!

the "walk and talk" of both springs was excellant to say the least!! The handles "fit like a glove" in my hand!! I was very impressed with these!

I was a "little" skeptical before I received these knives as the cost was not cheap by any means ($58.00), but when I received them I realized they were well worth the money!!! The Moore's really did a good job of getting (convincing) camillus to make a quality product (which Camillus can do, except they usually do not want to invest the money into doing so, different story).

I would highly recommend these guys: www.mooremaker.com And if you have any problems they are really good about helping! They are one of the few knife makers that truly care about their reputation and their customers!!!

Kudos to Moore Maker!!! :D

I've thought of a Moore Maker myself, glad to here they are so good, even the lowly Camillus one. I gotta somewhat disagree with some of the stuff you said about Camillus, I've always found their knives to be real unsung heroes. From the 50+ year old one that belonged to my dad to the brand new one I bought last week I've never had a bad Camillus.

Ive had plenty of bad camillus knives! Ive also had some good (more bad though). That comes with over 23 years of experience with their knives though (using, collecting, dealing, etc.). They can make a good knife, when they try! Some of the older ones I really liked, but the last 15-18 years.....not so much. There are few good ones out there being made, but the quality is noticeably getting worse (overall).

I have the same knife.
It's one of my all time favorites.

Just ask Dave at Morre maker to pick you a good one out.

They do not vary much at all, but I asked him to pick me some good ones and he did.

Jeff, by the way I hope you did not think I was insulting Camillus. I do like many of their knives, but I was just being honest with my experiences with them.

No problem, I just have had a different experience when it comes to Camillus, that's all. I've just had good luck I guess with them. I've only had one that gave me a problem, one of the Remignton 1306 patterns with yellow delrin scales. Not sure what steel they used in that one, but it virtually cannot be sharpened. It seems EXTREMELY hard and even diamond hones won't really get it sharp. Which is odd, my Remington/Camillus 1306 1990 bullet knife is the opposite, sharpens easy and holds the edge great!

Sounds like probably a problem with heat treat. You could send it back to them to look at?

+1 for the Moore Makers, i have a small and large trapper. They're awesome. I stood in front of the display case at our local ace hardware comparing them to the case, buck and bear and sons. the handle was on par with case but there was no comparison with the blades. The buck and bear and sons were completely outclassed...but it didnt stop me from buying a buck lockblade though :)

Ill be buying another moore maker on my next trip to Houston for sure.
