Hi all, I just purchased a new Moore Maker five blade stockman in smooth yellow bone from an online dealer. Aside from each scale being a different shade of yellow, its pretty nice. My question is this - 1999 is stamped on the spey blade - this isn't the date of manufacture is it?
Sorry no pics.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I like the knife, so I won't return it, but it seems odd to sell a 13 year old knife as new, even if hasn't been used, and not mention how old it is in the item description.

A lot of 'new' knives on the 'bay and other places are often 'NOS' (New Old Stock), meaning in new or brand new condition and in original packaging, but kept on a shelf for a very long time. Assuming, of course, that the item is truly in 'new' condition, seller integrity notwithstanding. In many cases, that can be a very good thing. There are still a lot of highly desirable NOS knives out there, in patterns or variations that might not be offered anymore, or from knife manufacturers who are no longer in business (Camillus, Schrade USA and others). If you do like the knife, and it is in new condition, I wouldn't worry too much about the seller's description, in this case. :)

JWren...............

I'm with David on this one...it's not odd at all.................many dealers will have older new stock of established knife companies on hand..like Moore Maker,Queen,Schatt & Morgan and Case simple because the companies have been around longer....and it's always welcome especially when one is looking for that special knife..............

OK, I didn't realize that, thanks for the heads up. Like I said, I like the knife, so I wasn't upset with the dealer or anything, just thought it was curious.
