Went down to the feed store this morning. No, I'm not a rancher. I buy big bags of sunflower seeds to feed the birds. That's right, I feed the birds. It's what geezers do.
On the counter was a picked over display stand with a few Moore Makers in it. I could not resist. So I bought this double lock back trapper.
Both blades are lock backs, about 3 3/4 inches, 1095 steel, delrin handle. Pretty nice little knife. It has a bit of a copper lock look to it with the front bolster covering the tangs when closed. I seem to recall one of you guys mentioned a name for the hidden tang feature but do not remember what it was. A good day for the birds and a good day for me.

That's how "Copperhead" patterns got their name, so that's what I usually call it.

Cool knife BTW!

I've been considering one of those for a long time. How's the fit and finish? Are the blades tight in the open position?

Regardless, nice one!!

I asked to see one and it had some play in both blades in both the open and closed position. I asked if he had another and the second one was nice and tight. I also have a Moore Maker whittler that had some blade rub on one of the blades. I do like Moore Maker and especially this one but I would say it would be better if you could pick one out in person, have the seller pick out a good one for you or at least have the option of sending it back for another.

Wow, that was a great find. I have a Camillus I got 10 years ago, a double lock cooperhead. I usally don't get derlin scales on a knife and the price was a bit high, but the unique design won me over. I tought I would never see another double lock cooperhead, until now. I guess I will be looking for a Moore Makers to see if I can double my stock of double lock cooperheads. (I call it a cooperhead, you can call it a trapper, still a very nice knife.)

Thanks for the info Thomason.

Regarding this post, expect the Moore Maker to be errily similar to your Camillus, as the Delrin Moore Makers are made by Camillus. I think Camillus still has an in force patent on the double lockback design.

I have one on the way that I puchased off of Ebay. For some reason, the lines on this knife are more appealing to me than the traditional trapper patterns Moore Maker has. That said, I do have the standard MM trapper in rams horn, longhorn, and a smoth bone magician's knife.

WTF is a magician's knife..? Picture please!

BTW.. Nice knife Thomason.

If it's the same type I'm thinking of, it's a knife with two different colored handle scales, used in illusions to give the impression that you've changed it to a different knife. I could be wrong though. Sorry, I don't have any pics.

It's a knife with two different colored scales. One is a maroon bone and the other is a white bone.

I read somewhere it was a knife with a red scale on one side and a black on the other, like a magician's cape.

Welll... OK.. I recon I am still in the dark a little, but thanks to all for your explanation of the Magic Knife.

I just got in the my double lockback in the mail yesterday. Very nice quality on the Camillus made Moore Maker.

Should one try to snap up all the Camillus knives one can find?

Cool pics!

Stop feeding those birds, they make my truck a mess, and I am constantly shooting at them with my 1377 Crosman, and not getting any work done at home ;).
