My son recently asked me to sharpen his Moore Maker yellow handled pocket knife . Having a little problem getting an edge on that thing after several hours of medium and hard stones. Matter of fact it still will not shave hair .

Any of you guys put a decent edge on one of them knives ?

Several hours?? You must be doing something wrong. You sure you got the angles right? Sounds like you either got the edge too thin and are getting a rolled wire edge or you have too much of an angle on it. Those knives are mostly just plain carbon steel, pretty easy to sharpen.

If you are used to sharpening the harder stainless steels out there, you may just be putting too much pressure on the edge. Lighten up and check for a burr or wire edge. If you press to hard, you just keep rolling the edge over and it never gets sharp.

I am used to harder metal. I shall ease off .And I need to get some new sharpening stones .

Thanks gents
