Hey guys, I wanted to see what your thoughs were on Moore Maker knives. I've never seen one in person, and don't seem to hear too much about them either. I was looking on line last night, and they have some nice looking knives. I was especially interested in their small sod buster, large stockman, and trapper. I also noticed that some of them come with a nice looking leather belt sheath. Anyway, before I drop money on a brand that I don't know much about, I thought I see what kind of experiences you guys have had with them. Do they have strong backsprings? I don't like something as strong as the GECs, but I can't stand weak backsprings. Thanks guys.

I have a handful of their knives (all built by Queen) and like them all.
All have good fit and finish and firm springs.

Of the three you mention specifically, I only have the large stockman in smooth yellow bone. (My others are an even-end trapper, sowbelly moose, large sodbuster and medium stockman.)

The Moore Makers tend to be a little higher priced (generally) but I like the patterns they offer as well as the 1095 blade steel. I think they are worth the investment, especially if you have a vendor that will examine the knife on your behalf before shipping it to you.

I love that smooth yellow bone and those 1095 blades. That's an awesome looking knife

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not sure if the one I posted above is the "large" or might be considered "extra large". It's about 4 3/8" closed.

This one which I called "medium" in my earlier post is just under 4" as I recall:

In any case, I think you'll like 'em.

They're both really nice, but the one I was reffering to was the first one you posted. I like the wider main blade on that one.

I've never had the opportunity to handle one, but I've always been fond of the Moore Maker 3 spring Whittler. I am a big fan of yellow bone, Elliott's pictures show why.

If you like the trapper pattern (blades) and are willing to experiment a little, I think you may find this one to your liking. (They can still be found online.)

Beautiful Blues! That equal end jack is my favorite! I've been eye balling that one for a while!

I have one of the Queen-made large yellow stock knives and it is quite nice. Some years back Camillus made some for MM and you might run into one on used market. I know Bear & Sons has made some, but I don't know which ones and I don't know if they still make any for MM. Some Bear knives have glued-on handles rather than pinned so that may be a way to identify them. I believe there has been a very long MM thread on here maybe a year back.

I've been EDCing an XL stockman in yellow jigged bone for several months-made by Queen w/ 1095. F and F are superb; good springs, but not nail breakers.
Plan on some quality time with your sharpening kit, however.
Overall, 8 out of 10.

I have just this one. The fit and finish is very good, and the springs are about the same tension as the equivalent Case models - just about right, not too stiff, not too weak. I have no experience with the models made by Bear, the consensus seems to be that the Queen-made models are superior.

I have several knives made by Moore Maker. Their higher end (usually the ones with the bone handles) are made by Queen, and are excellent knives. In fact, my edc is a Moore Maker trapper.

I have found them to be well made knives.

Here's mine ,a punch blade stockman with delrin.I think Camillus made this one.It is a great knife.

I really like the MM Sodbuster with the holster looking sheath. It is a lockback with yella handles.Been thinking about getting one.

I really like the Queen-made Moore Makers (don't have any experience with the older Camillus-made ones, or the current Bear-made offerings). I had a large serpentine Stockman like the one Elliott posted, but I traded it off for something else I wanted more at the time. Kinda wish I still had one... maybe hafta get another.

I recently handled one of the Lock Back Sod Busters in Yella bone (Model 3106LB). I don't know how to tell if it was made by Bear or Queen.

As has been reported before - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=792681&highlight=moore+maker, this one had significant blade play in all directions when locked open. Also, there was a pretty significant gap on one side in the back side liner (approx the width of 2 sheets of paper).

The finish was OK and the Leather belt sheath was very good. I would suspect that there are challanges in the making of a lock back that differ from a normal slip joint.

Never handled any other so I would go with the experiences reported here by those that have.
