has anyone ever heard of moore makers inc. knives? my nephew has a two blade large trapper and it seems decent, any input anyone?

The Queen Cutlery made Moore Maker's are about as good as you are going to get in 1095 Carbon Blades... Mr. Moore is very helpful in getting the knife you want......

I am a major fan of Moore Maker knives. I have only had very positive experiences with their knives. I couldn't agree more with D. Parker. My primary EDC is a honey jigged bone 5301 stockman. The 3 7/8" size fits well in my hands, the f&f in outstanding. What I really like about that particular knife is how deep the clip blade seats into the handle when closed. I also have and use the 4 1/4" stag stockman, and burnt orange bone (same size). All I can say is a great user knife.

Also, and just as important, the Moore family are really good people to work with.

The Queen built with 1095 steel Moore Maker knives are the better ones in my opinion. That said however, even those are hit and miss at best regarding quality as it pertains to performance and fit and finish.

For the money they command you can do better value wise with other American made and / or German made slipjoint cutlery, IMO.

I own four MM's. Each of them are very well made knives both in fit and finish.

An added bonus is that some of the patterns (sowbelly moose, even-end trapper, large stockman) are not widely available elsewhere.

I had one sent it back. The fit and finish was not up to my standards

Moore Maker does sell "seconds", which some unscrupulous (or unaware) sell as first quality knives.

So it's entirely possible to get a Moore Maker without a first rate fit & finish.

In my experience, the first quality Moore Makers are invariably excellent slipjoints -
as manufactured by Bear & Son, Camillus, Queen, and Boker.

I have two Queen-made yellow bone Moore Maker knives, and both have first rate fit and finish. I like them a lot.

I have a stockman in black horn and 1095 steel, and am very pleased with it.

i noticed on the handle the scales are different thickness, and the and grind lines on it do not match up. but even with that the knife is very nice, blades and lock up are great.

A great description of a Moore Maker "second".

IMO, it doesn't do Moore Maker any good to let them out into the marketplace
since they sully the reputation of the company.

From what I've read of them, it seems it also doesn't do Moore Maker any good to have Bear manufacture their current line. :thumbdn: Alas, with Camillus gone, there aren't that many choices left for them.

I believe Mr. Moore is trying to keep his lower priced knives made in America.. The reason for using Bear Cutlery. Perhaps their quality will improve........

I have old stock Camillus yellow delrin in carbon stockmans and trappers
They all good working knives

I have 2 Camillus made ones in horn. A muskrat and a small stockman. The muskrat was better f/f than the stockman. With that said both have zero blad play and smooth action. The liners and bolsters on the stockman were not perfectly lined up, so I did a little hand finishing on it. It looks perfect now. The pen blades spring comes out slightly past the bolster when it is half open, but it doesn't deter from its function. I use the stockman, and the muskrat is a safe queen just because it is a Camillus. I like the shields.if you look closely at the bottom of the first picture you can see the spring just sticking past the bolster.
I really like the shape of the master blade. the pics are a bit blurry so I'll just inudate you with images...
