I ordered a Mooremaker large frame trapper and got it today. I highly recommend their knives. Excellent quality. They look to be made by Queen. Nice flat grind carbon steel blades. The only thing I didn't care for was the bright yellow bone handles so I rubbed them with brown leather dye to darken them. I like the look much better. Check them out at www.mooremaker.com

Glad you like it, Scott. How 'bout some pictures? I've been curious about the fit and finish of their Queen-built knives for a while.

Buddy I wish I could. Still working on a digital camera. I can scan paper photos, But I'm still having a hard time with how to post them large enough for good clarity.

Here´s a good thread on using a scanner for pictures:

Thanks Don. You learn something new everyday. :) I didn't realize that you could actually place the item to be viewed right on the scanner and scan it. I'll try it and see if I get it right. Now my question is how to post it with my typed words on the thread? I know this has been discussed and is in the archives, but I'm a little dense with computer know how. I'll try it and hopefully I'll get it right. Thanks again

Here is a scan of the knife. It's not the greatest, but I'm still working at this. You'll notice the color of the handles is a dark golden color. When I got it the handles were school bus bright yellow. I guess this color would be good for the hunter who has a habit of losing his knife in the woods. It would stand out with the bright color. I like it this way much more. I used dark brown leather dye and applied it with a Q-tip. I let it soak in then buffed it with a soft cloth. Go to the website for a more detailed pic.

James, this knife snaps shut with authority. This pattern's blades have squared tangs so the blade when you close it, will stop half way and then you can push it the rest of the way closed. It also has a liner lock for the main blade. The spey blade does not.

That looks good. I would have never thought of dyeing the scales. Do you know if this will work on other yellow knives such as Case?

Hi Patrick, I don't see why it wouldn't work on a Case bone handled knife. I've done this with other bone scales and had no problem other than depending on how the bone is finished, it may or may not absorb as much of the dye. All bone scales are made from the shine bone of cattle. It's jigged and dye to different colors. You may have to apply several coats to make it lighter or darker. Also Remember when you were in school and learned your primary and secondary colors. Like mine yellow and brown make gold. Use a quality dye like Fiebing's or Tandy brand dye. These are what I use. Get plain leather dye not the oil or finishing dyes. Remember, once you apply the dye it's permanent.

Good point. If they are delrin it won't work. Delrin is plastic, forgot to mention that. :)

Thanks guys, I missed in the first post where it said Yellow Bone. I just focused on the yellow part.

Hi all,
Just wanted to add my .02 cents and recommend Mooremaker knives as well.

They're made by Queen and are on the Schatt & Morgan level.

A few tips:
When ordering from MooreMaker call them direct and ask about the different bone colors they have available in the pattern knife you want. They make limited numbers of different color bone scales in different patterns every year and sometimes have leftovers from past years. I recently bought a liner-lock trapper with jigged smooth butterscotch (I can't remember the exact name) colored scales. Very nice and very unique.

Also, if you like to wear a slipjoint, sheathed on your belt, buy a model that comes with one of their "holster" style sheaths. Their sheaths are nice and add value to an already good deal.

Buy MooreMaker!! ;)
