I just received my stag 4 1/2 in. liner lock trapper from Dave Moore and i am absolutely thrilled. this is the most attractive knife i own (tho. far from the most expensive). the stag is beauty (personification of), and thick, in perfect proportion for the large folder it is. i do not have large hands, yet it fits and balances perfectly, so i don't want to put it down. thick backsprings, and blades too that taper perfectly to nice edge, and in 1095. the fit and finish of scales/pins/liners/bolsters and blades is all perfect as far as i can tell.
this is such a beautiful knife, i who use all my knives (even $800 customs), hesitate to use it; tho. the big blades (with 1/2 stops) are obviously capable of serious work. i also have a MooreMaker sowbelly (pic. posted by Sunnyd in recent thread), tho. mine no longer is shiny as i use it daily in my gardening/landscaping chores.
here is a link for the trapper, (tho. the pictures don't impart the presence this knife has) http://catalog.mooremaker.com/viewProduct.cfm?item_id=392763

Good looking knife that also looks capable of some heavy duty use. Congrats and thanks for the feedback on it.

Amos, thanks for your kind words. it's been 3 days since my knife arrived and i still feel just as pleased with it. it's amazing how a well made knife can impart such a sense of joy or pleasure. i think for me it's partly esthetics (graceful lines, perfect proportion, attractive materials), partly ergonomics (how it feels in the hand more like an extension of my body than separate from it) and finally the sense of comfort knowing that the knife will work for, or with me, to efficiently accomplish whatever cutting job i'm going to be doing; like a friend you know you can rely on. i guess that's why we buy more knives than we need.

I know what you mean. From the most humble to the fancy, a good, old fashioned knife is more than a cutting tool. It's a companion and an extension of you. I do, on rare occasion, slip up and forget to put my knife in my pocket, and I feel like I'm missing part of me when I do. My wife laughs when someone asks if I have a knife on me because she knows from experience what my answer will be. "Am I wearing pants? Then I have a knife on me." :D

rprocter, how is the size of the knife? I read that you said it was nicely proportioned and fit the hand well, but how would it be to carry? I am considering getting a 2206. Similar knife, yellow derlin handles, no liner lock, but I am worried about the size for carry. I have carried a case trapper (4 1/8" model) with no problems, but this is substantially larger. Additionally, how do you like the sheath that came with the knife? Does it seem well made and fit the knife well/snugly? Thanks for sharing.

I have one of those and feel the way you do. Mine's a display queen though. I have the buff horn/slipjoint version (Camillus made) for use. Both are exceptional quality and beautiful knives.

If you get the yellow delrin, the sheath is a little different than the one in the picture, because it's a Camillus made knife and the stag is a Queen made knife. I actually like the sheath that comes with the Camillus made version better.

Edited: Here's a picture of my two MM large trappers in their respective sheathes:

Thank you very much for you comparison photograph. It very clearly illustrates the sheath differences. Do you find there to be a size issue for carrying the knife? As a side note, I am not a very large guy and I don't want the knife to feel unwieldly.

I'd say it feels about the same as a Buck 110 on the belt. If you're used to carrying a standard 4 1/8" trapper in a belt sheath, I don't think this would be a problem, although it is heavier.

I have the 3206DLB and it is too big for me to carry daily in the pocket. Sheath carry is out of the question in the office. The sheeple would panic.
I don't know how it compares in size to the 6206 & 2206, but it looks very similar in size. It is my go to knife when i head out on a hunting/fishing/woods trip. It has already skinned a deer, rabbit and several squirrels.

Longbeachguy, is the knife on the left a Queen knife? Mine came with that style sheath.

the MooreMaker 6206LL i have is for belt carry; definitely too bulky for the pocket. as can be seen in pics. previously posted, the sheath is o.k., nothing special; but, the knife fits snugly, very unlikely to fall out even if you end up upsidedown (which has happened to me hunting. here in the mountains, if you don't fall it's because you haven't tried to go where the big smart old mulies are). as the sheath is a belt loop type, the knife rides comfortably low on the hip. i ordered a second sheath as well and got the Camillus kind, which i too think is a little nicer, a little more sturdy. if you get this knife, i really think you will NOT be disappointed. roland

Mr. Longbeachguy, i did not know that yellow MM jumbo trapper was made by Camillus. is it as well made as the stag Queen ? does it feel as good in the hand ? cut well on arrival, without tweaking ? i think i need one, but i'll await your response before calling Mr. Moore. i really like the fact that the person who owns (family) the company, is the one who answers the phone when you call. if you have any questions or problems, you're immediately talking to the right guy, and one whom i sense, cares. thanks, roland

In my experience the Camillus made Moore Makers are as well made as the queens, just less fancy. In terms of quality and feel, I think the yellow handle jumbo trapper would suit you very well, and it does not lack quality compared to the Queen.

The one on the left is the Buffalo handle version, made by Camillus. If you received that sheath with one made by Queen (bone or stag) then I guess maybe the sheath you get isn't a Camillus/Queen related issue per se.

Well, I pulled the trigger and ordered the 3206 yellow delrin handled model. I will give you an update as soon as I get it. Thanks for the advice and opinions.
