Does anyone carry a Moose? I got one in the mail today and like it a good deal. I would like to have a blade that is a little smaller instead of the long spey blade. What would the spey blade be good for other than to castrate a bull?

Thanks,
John

I picked up a case moose back in the late 80's with bone scales and carried it for a while, liked it pretty well but my full size trapper won the pocket battle. as far as the long spey blade basically i keep mine super duper scary sharp for when i need a scalpel and use the clip for everything else. nice pattern. btw what brand moose did you get??

I got a Red Bone Case with CV blades. I think it is the same as the trapper, but with a blade on either end making it slimmer.

Thanks,
John

They both have two backsprings though (unless the mooses made today are different)...so I would think the thickness would be similar. The 6275 moose to me seems a little beefier than the 6254 trapper.

Yes they both have two backsprings, but on the moose there is not a liner to keep the two blade apart at the bolster. I know it is not much thinner, but it does feel slightly better in my pocket.

I don't have a Moose yet, but I have one on the way with Case's 6.5 'Bone Stag' scales. I do have a Trapper with a spey blade, and I use the spey for situations where I need to cut without digging the point into something - the string around a newspaper bundle come to mind. I use the clip for about 90% of cutting.

thx - cpr

I have a Moore Maker moose, and I really like it. I haven't carried it since I got my Ray Kirk scagel and my Ken Erickson trapper, but the moose was my go-to knife for a long time.

I have been using my moose the past 2 days and it is starting to get a patina. Got to love the carbon blades :D. I will try to get a few pics of my spotty patina in the next day or so.
