took a group out for a moose hunt as their guide. they had a Cow tag and told me to take a shot if i had one and i did. round about 200yrds. drop'er flat.
here are some pictures. i posted a thread earlier on "christmas eve hike" and that's the knife i initially used to get the job going. thought you all might be interested in the pics.
halved her, and quartered the hindelegs then took her out on the bike (aka the ATV or 4-wheeler to most, we call'em bikes)
not much else to tell, cept i still have moose in the freezer, gonna have steaks for dinner tomorrow night.
i will do another post on partridge (grouse) hunting later too. all the specifics on the hunt and technical info will be posted in the hunting forum on here.
just wanted to share and see who all had a good fall hunt??? share pictures if you'd like too.
Before and after pictures are all included.

IF you can see the tiny orange dot in the picture, that's where the moose was when i took my shot, from where the photo was taken from

any questions, feel free to fire away.
just thought i'd share another day in the life.

good pics i think many members have no idea how massive a moose is. i'm surprised you did'nt have to stand in water to cut her up. seems many hunting pics the poor hunters are working in knee deep h2o. lots of work to be done, i had to quarter an elk by coleman lantern once. walked back to camp for help & everyone was still out , so i marked my way back with tape , left word with the cook & took off with the lantern. was glad to see crew about an hour later. thanks for showing.

Nice moose, good to see you had a few people with you. it can be alot of work once its on the ground. Do you butcher your game yourself ? our family usually did the majority on the kitchen table and sent the sausage meat to the butcher.

Well done. A moose hunt is my entire bucket list. Moose is far and away my favorite meat.

Do you trade moose hunts for knives??! Lol :)

haha wish i could! i've been staring at your stuff often... those woodlore's keep dropping in price and i'm getting an itchy trigger finger... love that wood handled piece and it's price too "trade knife" i think you have it as, though i haven't gotten into the convex thing yet.

i have never taken a moose for myself before. taken shots like this though for groups that just want to secure an animal while they're out. moose tags are too rich a commodity for us to shoot one myself. plus i'm on my own so i don't need all that meat. happy with fish and partridge (grouse) elk and so on.
never gone bear hunting either before (but i've guided and cleaned hundreds and hundreds) 30-50 a year. (had to shoot some that come into camp though if that counts, but never gone hunting for one personally)
ppl that come up don't tend to leave with everything, so i inevitably have bear roasts and moose steaks in the fridge year round haha.

What were you using .338? Might as well give us details so we can further drool over the keyboards.

A friend and I are planning an Alaskan Caribou hunt this fall. My son is a teacher in a native village above the Arctic circle. He thinks my friend and I should get a Moose tag and a Caribou tag. After eating Caribou for 6 months now he says Moose are much better tasting. ;) And this from a kid that would eat anything not nailed down.
I wonder if the Moose is better because of the aquatic plants they consume?

I disagree! The Caribou I have eaten taste way better than Moose. The problem you have is that Caribou is by far less nutritious due to what the animal eats. Moose on the other hand is WAY better in the nutrition department. If your looking at taste alone though nearly everone I know up here would go with Caribou, even better yet is Dall Sheep or Mountain Goat:thumbup:;).
Been there done that!!!:D

Wow, caribou over moose? I have eaten a fair bit of caribou in my day, an acquired taste, I figured. Moose however, I would choose over a filet mignon. :)
