Moose In Yard

Our grown daughter had a Dr appointment this morning and I dropped my truck off with her and picked up her van and brought our five young grandsons to our house so my wife could watch them. As I was carrying two and herding the rest of them across the road this big mama moose came charging out of a neighbors driveway at us. We made it in the gate and she went around the house into the ally by my shop. Here are a couple of photos of her I took as I stood by my shop

I am more frightened of running into moose in the bush than I am bears. In the fall rut or a scared or spooked female is a serious danger. They make an angry horse look like a chihuahua next to a pitbull.

What Brad said. Cow moose are dangerous, particularly in spring when they have young to defend.

Yeah, when I was in AK. last winter, I was more concerned about Mama Moose, then anything else. I saw a lot of Moose where I lived; and some baby Moose. I stayed in the cabin when I saw baby Moose.

If that bull calf does not get hit on the road in the next year or two he will probably end up in someones freezer. We have a drawing bow hunt that is used to keep the town moose in check. For the last twenty years I have been on a list to salvage road killed moose for charity. I butcher five or six a year and try to give them to native elders who have moved to town and do not access to their traditional food.
