I designed this knife a while back and had been planning to make it myself as my first "from scratch" project, but other commitments (remodeling my home) have kept me from working much with knives.

I talked to Bill Siegle about making it and he agreed, a few months later here’s the result.

I decided to call it the Moose-knuckle because it's big, ugly and I first started thinking about the design while we were camping in Maine this past year.

The main goal was something that was suitable for camp/hunting chores, thin for ease of carry or packing and beefy enough to be used for batoning through wood or heavier chores.

It has a full flat grind and tapers all of the way to the tip. I plan to add a bail in a few days which is why I asked for the 1/8" hole at the butt.

Spec's:
Blade: Just under 4.5"
OAL: 10"
Thickness: 3/16"
Steel: 154CM

Hopefully this weekend I can start working on a variety of sheaths for it.

Overall Bill did a great job going from paper to steel, I couldn't be happier with the final product.

Let me know what you think, thanks!

What do you mean, "ugly"? A toad to another toad ain't ugly! ;)

I like it! (And you spell "bail" correctly. Kudos, sir.)

I hope Bill doesn't mind, but after using the knife for a while I decided that my request to go sans scales was a bad one, with the beefy steel handle I just could not get a comfortable grip and my hand felt like it wanted to slip forward. Oh well, live and learn.

So here's the rebirth of the Moose-knuckle with scales.

I did it with Tan G-10 and 5 brass pins. Still need to add the bail but that will come soon.

Hey coackroachfarm, how did you make out in Vegas?

Being in AK, that thing is as nasty, not ugly, as a moose knuckle..lol

Nice work and a VERY fitting name

I was just going to add that some scales might make it better, and there ya go! I really like the blade shape a lot. It looks like the perfect utility sized blade that could also handle some heavy stuff too. Very cool.

I always thought a moose knuckle looked like a camel's toe ;)

You got that right! :p

Thanks for all of the positive comments guys, now I just need to figure out a good sheath design for this beast...

I also wanted to reiterate that Bill Siegle made the knife to my specs, I just decided after the fact to add scales.

Don't want anyone to think I made this from scratch, Bill did the best/hardest part.

So, that leaves me asking the 5 million dollar question. When are YOU going to make one from start to finish? If my lazy, procrastinating butt can occasionally finish one, so can you. :)

I know, I need to get myself a grinder & metal cutting band saw and I'll be ready to go. I'm hoping after I have surgery on my wrists I'll be ready to do it.

Believe it or not I do have 2-3 blades done I just need to get them out to heat treat and then finish them up.
