What exactly is a moose pattern pocketknife?
Is there an on-line source for pocketknife pattern descriptions?

Thanks in advance guys since I know those who know will share what they know with those (me) who don't know:)

Thanks gentleman. I have started carrying a Tomes double lock-back that has been sitting in the case for too long and thought I had heard it called a moose somewhere. Indeed it is. I also ordered a copy of Levine Guide to Knives a few minutes ago. I have heard good things about it as a reference. Are there any other books a traditional knut should have on hand? So much to learn, so much to learn.

Is the Levine's Guide you bought a 4th Edition? By all acounts- I can only speak for 4th vs. 5th- the 4th is best of all. 5th is a bit lacking.

I have a CASE 6275 moose. It uses the same frame as the 6375 stockman and has the same clip blade. the other blade that it has is a long spey which opens from the other end. Nice knife but I haven't found it to be very practicial.

A Moose, or Texas Jack, is a double end Trapper.

The handle pattern or shape can vary on a moose. Often a serpentine pattern, it can also be a swell center. I just ordered one from vintageknives.com . Swell center, with ebony handles, nice old style.

Ordered the 5th edition not knowing all the issues with it, after finding out about them and reading Levine's comments on the 5th, I was able to cancel that order and reordered the 4th edition. Thanks Sword for bringing it all to my attention.

Good job S&S for his assist...

Thomason,
You will be very pleased with Levine's Guide 4th as the very best reference source on all knife related information, bar none, in my humble opinion!
