Ive been hiking the White Mountains for 20 years looking for moose every time with no luck. Many bear, hundres of deer, foxes, you name it, but no Moose. This weekend it all changed when I saw a mother AND a baby moose right off the Kangamanguse highway!

Enjoy these pics...prolly the only ones ill ever get.

Great shots!

I couldn't get over how BIG these animals are... the best description I've ever heard to put them into context is that they look like a Volkswagen on stilts!

Hey Rocky! Watch me pull a rabbit outta' my...oh wait, there's no bull in those pics. :)

Nice shots. It's always cool to get to see wild animals up close & personal.

I must say: I have no idea why but seeing these animals put me in such a great mood. I work with computers all day but there is something about seeing a 1,000 pound animal in a wild habitat that makes you really re-evaluate the big picture. They were so serene and majestic and had no fear whatsoever of humans...a very surreal experience.

The best thing was that the little one was interested in people much more than the mother. The mother hardly looked at us the whole time, but ever peep that came from our direction caused the baby to walk our way and stare us down...it was almost playful! Funny considering I bet the "baby" weighed more than 90% of the deer I have ever seen.

reminds me of the trip my mother and i made to yellowstone back on june 6, 1998. just seeing all the wild animals made me feel so good inside. one of my favorite times was when we were driving in the park, we were driving next to a buffalo. another time was when i got up close (about 20-30 feet) to a sleeping black bear. nice pics David. would have been pretty cool if the baby would have come close enough for you to pet it.

Nice Pic's!!!!  Next time if you see a male shoot it with a gun and bring it down here and I'll cook that suck up and we will have a HI at the same time.;) ;) :D

I dont know if i would have had the balls to try to pet it considering its protective mother weighing about 1000 pounds and being ten feet away....I pet it with my mind, though...:D

years ago maybe 30 we went to lavendere (sp) park in canada-man did we see a whole bunch of moose-every day in fact, one day one walked up to the table and started eating the salad at the other end while we looked from the other end

david shave about 400 pounds off that girl and you'll be a lot closer to her weight.
;) :) those things are pests up here, but they sure taste good though :D

There were moose in some areas of Montana, were I grew up and lived till about 12 years ago and in Alaska where I used to comercial fish. I have come across a few a pretty close range while hunting elk etc. They showed no fear even in hunting season and have always made me a bit nervous especially with calves and they have a reputation for becoming aggresive, especially the bulls. I grew up around range cattle and I do not even trust a "domestic" range bull one bit and my father in law was seriously busted up by one. I prefer to give animals of this sort good berth. Even a buck deer can mess you up pretty good an I bet plenty of us have seen exmples of this. As far as bears go the best example is the bear guy idiot from California that was spenting his summers with the big browns in Alaska untill one of the boars made lunch out of him and his girl friend.

Yep, watched the dorkumentary the guy made. It was very entertaining but I guessed beforehand how the end would be written. He ended up in their "pick-a-nick basket" :D
