this is my first review so lets see how it goes.
i had been hearing a lot of people bragging on Mora of Sweden so i thought i would jump on the wagon and give them a try. i order three different Mora product (#2 classic, 2000, and 164 crook knife) from bensbackwoods.com for a grand total of $63 after shipping. i was very pleased when i received my order five days later which i consider plenty fast.
the first day had classes so i couldn't really give the knives any of my time (i did started my handle mod and changing the hollow grind to a traditional flat scandinavian on the #2).
so the following morning i decided to try the classic out in the kitchen and was extremely impressed.i use it to slice mushrooms, onions and ham for an early morning omelet
As the day progressed I used both the #2 and the 2000 for day to day tasks, which they performed well as to be expected. Next i was out and in to a wooded area just behind my house. There is a 150+ year old wagon trail that makes traversing over the terrain much easier than free roaming threw the woods.
As I walked around I found a small sapling and put the new knives right to work.
I started with the #2
Next up was the Mora 2000
The 2000 has a noticeably more comfortable grip, and is slightly rubberized. It is also quite a bit heavier, though both are EXTREMELY light which is great when you are carrying them for long distances.
This is how I like to carry the two knives:
I find that the #2 is a great pocket riding fixed blade. I do where skinny jeans so this many not be the same with baggy pants
It was getting later in the day so I headed back, with a fresh piece of wood for the 164.
And this is what became of it:
Overall im impressed with all of these blades, and I couldnt ask for more dollar for dollar trade off.
Here is a comparison:
From top to bottom.
Becker BK11 (sporting micarta scales)
Mora of Sweden 164
Mora of Sweden #2 (moded handle and bolster)
Mora of Sweden 2000
If I had to pick a favorite it would be the #2 classic, the way it rides in the pocket and the feel in-hand is unbelievable. Expecially when you factor the price of $11..
Plus I improved it:thumbup:
Well that sums up my experience thus far. Feel free to weigh in with comments and advice. (on both the review and the knives)
allen.
