Mora #2?

Howdy folks-

Need a quick judgment call from someone who has used a Mora #2. I've got large-ish hands and like a relatively beefy, curvy handle. The Mora #1 is quite small for me in handle circumference. Can anyone tell me about the #2 handle? Is it substantially larger? How does it compare in size to something like the 510 or triflex or M2k, etc.?

Thanks for your thoughts-

i got some ape hands too...i have the S-2...it feels smaller than my 510 did. the M2k has the largest of the handles of those three

smallest-largest
2
510
triflex
M2k

i love my triflex after i grounded and rounded the gaurd :)

Thanks much guys!

Dannyboy- I agree, your posts and blade-leanings are noticeably similar to mine indeed! I also agree with how the standard M2K handle feels, too narrow for my paws as well. Sounds like the #2 might be a touch small for me, or that using it would be somewhat of a second-best comfort wise versus other blades. The re-done one that you posted looks lovely, by the way.

Edited to add: Incidentally, if you haven't had a chance to use them, I find the BCNW-O1, Brendan Gausvik M2K rehandle, and Fiddleback Hunter to be fantastic fits for my hand size. In case you get curious down the road!

I have large hands as well. Might be tad short for you. I do like how full they are though.

DannyBoy, I agree, a rehandled Mora is a much nicer tool without the red coating. Also, I see that you drop the lip around the ferrule, I do the same!

Those both look quite lovely! I like the spiral on the top one, looks quite 'straightly' carved.

Handles usually aren't too short for me, I guess my hands aren't that wide. But they are usually too small in circumference.

i like that rehandle paleojoe! usually i grab my 780 if i need a scandi...although the blade is a bit long for me :)

I have big hands as well, The Number two fits me quite well and feels much larger than the Number one. One thing, you won't be out much to give one a try.;)

Hi Spooky,

I will often pull the handles off my #2's (when I need a project), and fill the handle/tang void with epoxy. Some like the red paint, I get rid of it when I remove the handles.

How do you pull the handles? I love the handle shape of mine, but was sent one with the finger guard and would love to remove it.

i like that rehandle paleojoe! :)

Thanks guys! That little 3" High Carbon Mora is a great carver/whittler!

I used a rose hip plant dye to fill the incision. With how little a Mora costs, they're fun to play around with and experiment!

It's funny, I have XL hands too, but love the #1. Small, but nimble. The barrel shape really works for me.

The #2 (I have a #2.5) is longer and a little rounder, nothing massive, but noticeable.

That is some really beautifully creative mora's there!

Very impressed.

Spooky- are you on RimfireCentral.com and with the same name?
I use the Mora #2 as my backpacking edc. The #1's handle is way to small for me (XL gloves) but the Mora 2 works well. It may not fill my hand the way a Skookum or Falkie H1 does but it's definitely adequate.

I don't think I am! Or if I am, it was probably only a scant few posts. Scary if another gent has such a weird name!

Spooky, I have a couple extra user Mora#2 knives
Email me your Addy and I'll give you one. That way you can see if the size works for you. I need to make another order from Ragweed Forge anyway so I'll just get a new one while I'm at it.

Any advice on how to remove the handles on these without damaging the handle or the blade? Maybe put the blade in a clamp and slowly work the handle back and forth?
