Mora 2K or CS UWK?

I have a UWK in carbon V steel and I would take it over a mora 2000 any day.
I dont know about the Krupp steel though.

Here is mine in the center.

Hey Guys..

All depends what you want to do with it....

If it's bushcraft,, it'll be hard to beat the M2K with the Cold Steel...
It's just an all around Better cutter than the CS...

However if it's a little bit harder of work,, then the CS will be fine....

Hello there and welcome to BF!

I've never owned any of those knives so you can take my opinions for what they're worth. . .

These two knives' designs are very different and each has it's own merits. However, again, it all boils down to your intended use.

The M2K's design, from the blade's size, thickness and grind plus the ergonomics of the handle is optimized for more precise cuts and slices, which is best for shaping/crafting materials such as wood. An experienced and knowledgeable outdoorsman would find this to be a good knife. That being said, I understand it is also issued to some of the Sweedish soldiers in their county.

The UWK is basically a "combat" knife; meaning its design tries to accomplish a lot of tasks in the field, from cutting to chopping. Hence, the combat knives are almost always going to be a bit on the bigger, heavier and thicker side when compared to most knives. It may not cut as well as the M2K but its more robust and can handle rougher chores.

Thanks for the welcome, but I have been here a while. I know it sounded like a newbie question, but it was very late. Thank you all for opinions and keep them coming. I really want it as a hiking/camping/fishing/survival knife, really one knife that I can grab everytime and know it will handle most of my mundane outdoor tasks. I want a really good slicer, but the M2K is extremely ugly in most pics I have seen, and I am not sure I like the sheath. I have a SOG Seal Pup and love the design, but hate the serrations, the UWK is a little longer so I am not sure I will like it as well. I am also not familiar with new Krupp stainless. I would ideally like to have a fairly thick blade with a much thinner edge, I want the edge thin enough to be able to sharpen it on my SM (without a year's worth of reprofiling:grumpy:), which most of my current FB's can't do. If anyone has any other do-it-all knife ideas, please tell me and keep the suggestions coming.
P.S. I want the whole outfit strong enough to depend on if I ever need to, but it doesn't have to be able to withstand a nuke attack, I know how to use a knife without breaking it.

Oooops! Yep, sorry, didn't notice your post count (had an all-nighter as well).

I don't know your budget, but from your description above, take a look at BARK RIVER knives and those of FALLKNIVENS'. Two brands that enjoy solid reps.

http://www.barkriverknifetool.com/

Personally, I like Canadian Camp knife (you may have to check their corner in the "other" forum a pic). It's got a leaf-shaped "bolo" blade design that's similar to the traditional ones here in my country.

The A1, S1 for the "largish" side and the H1 and F1 for the smaller ones.

Happy knife hunting!

No problem. My budget is around $50 after shipping, but I would like to keep it as low as possible for now. I would really like to get the S-1 later as well as a Bravo-1.

I´d go with the cs, the mora is a god knife but the tip is very easy to
snapp it´s to brittel.. Here in sweden i now many hunters that use it one hunting season the throws it.

Ummm, not exactly. The Bark River version is a bit different. It might not be allowed to cross-post as per forum rules so check them out at their corner at the "other" forum. Swell tools nonetheless!

As I understand it also, the Grohmann's "bow back" design have also been working CLASSICS for a generation already. I also happen to like the large Survival model as well.

I've owned a Mora 2K for almost three years and I love it. It is funny-looking, but that's mostly because the one blade has two grinds on it, which change as the profile of the blade changes. The blade has a distal taper, so the grind near the grip is a pretty traditional Scandi grind; the tip of the blade is flatter and the grind, while still Scandi-style, is wider (i.e., the edge of the blade is thinner at the tip for easier slicing/carving).

I mention this because you would need to sharpen a Scandi edge by holding the knife flat against a stone. You could still use you Sharpmaker, but you would need to use the "benchstone" configuration rather than the "V" configuration.

Regarding the UMW -- I've never handled one, but I would be concerned about the part of the crossguard that protrudes past the back of the blade -- it seems that it would be uncomfortable to put your thumb on the back of the blade for long periods with that much guard there. Still, if you're comfortable with the grip on your SOG, this grip is probably similar to what you already use.

but the M2K is extremely ugly in most pics I have seen,

It's definitely a weird looking knife. For me, it's part of the attraction, though. It's cool to pull out a toy-like knife, and out cut all those expensive pretty knives.
