i was thinking of getting one of these but i have only had carbon moras. i was wondering what you guys think of moras swedish stainless. thanks

The Mora stainless knives are great. They are, I believe, 12c27 Sandvik which is very good stainless...takes a killer edge and is easy to maintain and resharpen. I have several Moras in this steel and they are all superb.

Yup--12C27 Sandvik. Great stuff and takes a beating. Don't be worried about it handling hard use.

The steel is quite soft. But easy to sharpen and gets very sharp. Will bend but not break - so would be a right choice for survival.

I have two Mora Bushcrafts, one in Triflex and the other in Stainless. The stainless is not bad by any means, but the carbon Triflex definitely has superior edge retention. Unless I'm going into really humid environment or doing water-related activities, the Triflex version is the one I carry.

Mora knives have a great reputation and a great price point, but I'm a little skeptical of the $60-$70 price tag on this model. Seems to me that your paying $40+ extra for a sharpening stone and a firesteel.

Yep, I'm thinking the same thing.

I love Moras, especially the $10 ones. You can buy a Mora, DC4 sharpener, and firsteel for less than the bushcraft survival knife. Not worth it, IMO.

I'm lovin mine.

I have batoned with it before these pics were taken. Cleans up nice.

I have a 511 and 546 which are virtually identical except for the carbon vs 12c27 blades. The stainless sharpens up real well and is comparable to the high carbon blade. I sharpen with a micro bevel @ 35 degrees inclusive. After a while the carbon blades will take a patina which will reduce the reflection off of them. I have found the carbon blades to be a little more brittle. The 546 cost 25% more.

Quality control has gone down. I've read many bad complaints about uneven grinds and bad heat treats. Do a search on Blade Forums. If you can, hand pick one at a knife store.

how do you guys think it would compare to the kabar usn mk1 as an everyday hiking blade
thanks

Really? I saw ONE GUY bellyache about it. You wanna cite examples of these "bad complaints"?

I have purchased all my Mora's in the past two or three years and all have been supurb in both fit and finish as well as the quality of steel and out of box sharpness. This is a non-issue. Please do remember these are $15 to $30 knives not $600 Hinderers. REAL quality compared to price is absolutely outstanding.

Yeah--this. One guy got a bee in his bonnet over a superficial difference in the secondary grind on the tip of a Mora 2k (I think it was). It was superficial and had no affect on performance. I haven't seen any problems with any of the Mora's I've got in stock, and I inspect every single on of them by hand, just like all of my other items. I have yet to have a problem with a single one of them. :)

yep just got one from you the other day actually, with a couple of other cheapies. ythanks was a great transaction. anyways, the one i got was maybe the most perfect example of a mora i've ever seen. you do a great job at that...looking 'em over. hate to sidetrack the thread.

talking in general here....not to Baryonx, i dont think you really need to hand pick a mora form a store in person....i can't say i've seen many that had any real issues for a working knife and not a collector piece. what do i know though.....

go for the triflex, better knife, same ergonomics, almost the same sheath, carbon steel and less than half the price of the bushcraft survival....( for what..a sheath and a firesteel??) triflex is the way to go

Mora bushcraft force !
I prefer stainless since the real world difference with carbon steel in a 4'' blade is minimal
