Mora Classic No.1 Discontinued

I've been looking around to find a Mora Classic No.1 carbon steel to replace/back-up the well used one I've been carrying for a while now. Searches have turned up most sellers with "no longer available" or "discontinued" on their sites (much to my dismay and disbelief). I couldn't find anything online in terms of discussions/announcements that this most classic of Mora designs was in fact being left behind to become, like too many other great products in our modern world, a relic of a great design that was just no longer feasible to continue producing. I emailed Mora directly and they confirmed that the No.1 is now only available in the laminate version (I believe it's called a 'special' or something. Natural colored (non-red handle), leather sheath, considerably higher price tag that the standard Classic No.1). A small part of me, deep inside, began to shrivel and die...

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas/thoughts/ponderings about why they would discontinue this (near) perfect knife. I guess I already know the reason... perhaps I'm just looking to find out that I'm not the only one who will be mourning its loss. I own lots of Moras, and I do love the plastic-handle versions... But not like I love the Classic No.1. I guess in a modern plastic world, a simple round wood handle just can't compete....

Probably too simple and inexpensive for modern day thinking
If you are still looking check out Ebay

This subject came up a few months ago, not too long after Mora announced its revamped lineup featuring a red stain in place of the red painted wood handle. At that time, the classic No.1 was getting a bit thin on the ground. It took some looking to find one in stock.

The No.2 has survived with the stain, along with one that incorporates a guard, like the 612.

The laminated Original Classic No.1 is still available at a price. Its small size and close-fitting sheath make for an easily pocketable little rig.

I generally prefer the #2, but used my #1 just today for food prep. Great knives indeed and real classics! Would be sad if they were to disappear.

But would also be strange, given that they just revamped the classic line (including the #1) a few months ago...

Anyway, I hope you still find a few of them left in stock somewhere, good luck brother!
