I got an early Valentine's Day present last night. Two Mora knives and a Cold Steel Bushman. The Moras are the Craftsman Carbon OD Green and the K J Eriksson Carbon Knife 511. The CS Bushman is ok but I think the sheath is a bit cheesy. I'm going to try to make a new one. Anyone else use Mora knives or the CS Bushman?

I use a mora #1 carbon everyday for food prep. Also for hiking. Great knife, keep the scandi grind for sure.

I have several Mora's, one catches some use in the kitchen, another is in my BOB, I gave one to Dad to keep in his car kit...great knives and not much money. In my opinion one of the best buys out there in a fixed blade.

I don't mind the Bushman sheath, but ended up doing this to the Bushman itself.

I just got a Mora 911 from Ragweed Forge and I'm very impressed for $12.00. It's not a Busse, but then it's not supposed to be. It's a well made, inexpensive knife that should serve a lifetime of normal use.

I can't say anything about the CS Bushman other than to say that I've never been impressed enough with them to buy one. I've heard others compliment them, but they're not my cup of tea. Luckily, there are a lot of different types out there.

Both the Moras and the Bushman are considered good bang for the buck.

I have a carbon steel, wood handle Mora and a Mini Bushman. The Mora is great. It takes and holds a good edge so far.

Despite liking the shape of the Mini Bushman more than the Mora, I have been less than fully impressed with it. It seems really strong and takes a sharp edge very easily, but loses that edge just as quickly. I cut some underbrush/weeds at a campsite on a recent vacation to southern New Mexico and the Mini Bushman ended up with dull spots along the edge. This was very light vegetation that I held as I cut it. The blade was sharp at the beginning of the campout. It was not completely dull at the end of the campout but no hard work that should have dulled the blade was done with it and it still got dull spots very quickly. SK-5 seems kind-of weak in my opinion. I like the old Carbon V from Camillus/Cold Steel but SK-5 is a step down for sure. Maybe mine was just badly heat treated but performance is lacking in my opinion.

I have 6 Bushmen. They are cheap enough to put them anywhere you are likely to need one and they are very sturdy. They are one of the most cost-effective knives out there:thumbup:

sk-5 bushman has been good to me but I have the sheath with the pocket. No problems with sk-5 edge retention in my cs bowies and I have a couple carbon V as well.
You must have got a bad heat treat, their a steal for the money.
