Mora Companion as a Boot Knife?

So recently i started wearing some combat boots just because i was they were like 30$ and really comfy. So they became my everyday shoes. Recently i thought hey, i wear boots now, lets shove a knife in there. So after some research i determined a mora companion or mora 612 would fit my purposes nicely. My only concern is the handle and how the sheath would fit in the boot. I know the whole thing is like 8-9 inches long but has anyone done this before? Such a cool cheap knife with carbon steel and a scandi grind... thats kinda hard to pass up. I can understand if you wanted a chopper or something else but i want this for edc. I live in GA so its not the wilderness but it definitely couldnt hurt to add a 6th blade to the edc setup right? Heck if i like em i got 2 boots so maybe ill be rockin double moras. Anyways my use for this knife would basically be anything and everything. Just not really wilderness survival (unless a really odd situation occurs).

So let me know what you guys think. If you have any other suggestions please let me know but my budget is no more than 20$. Back to the Mora, the only reason i would get it is for a boot knife (unless anyone has some kinda scout style mod for it)

thanks- Artyom-

I'm not sure about Mora's sheath retention. It is not that strong enough.

Try instead Cold Steel Peacekeeper or Cold Steel Kobun. Or at least try to get a kydex sheath for Mora with metal clip.

There's a reason Mora's are known for their knives and not their sheaths haha. If you intend to carry it on your boot I would suggest you slim down the handle some and make/buy a new sheath. The retention is based on friction around the guard (in the case of the 612 ) and very quickly weakens thus pops out at the earliest sign of motion.

IMO making a sheath for it isn't that difficult and well worth the time. I'll post a few of the one's I've done when I'm at my home computer.

Yeah, I wouldn't do a Mora, the sheaths retain just fine for pretty basic stuff, but I wouldn't trust it in my boot, especially if doing anything more than just walking stately around.

A touch out of your budget, and not really a "true" boot knife, but look at the Kabar 1117.

Good luck with whatever you do :).

The handle on a Mora is too fat for a boot knife. Traditionally a boot knife is supposed to be slim.

I am going to go against the grain and say the mora is actually not bad to wear in the boot. I have done it before for giggles. Although I am not a huge advocate of boot knives etc etc cause of concealment laws and other things, the mora is actually decent on the boot. With the clip you can mount it on the outside of the boot, or with boots with a wider mouth you can slip it inside. Plus a knife like the Mora clipper/companion MG is so light it was not bothersome at all. The boots I have done this with are Redwing Pecos, and with some jeans that are boot cut (wider bottom) printing wasnt a big deal. If you are worried about retention with the stock sheath you can put a piece of paracord under the clip and around the knife to hold it in place. Works great and is super cheap/easy. Without some kind of extra retention you might not want to go around doing cartwheels and such as you might end up shaving your leg  lol

All of this being said if you are looking for a dedicated "boot knife" there are a lot of other options out there that might serve you better for your intended purpose, but it is always fun to play around with and experiment with stuff. Have fun and be safe!

Decided to take some pics for giggles. It may not be the best thing in the world, but its certainly doable. like I said its fun to experiment with stuff. When mounted outside of the boot its going to show up more when walking as opposed to inside the boot behind the ankle.

Your pic shows more of a cowboy/workboot. You had mentioned combat boots....how does it fit in those?? I don't think it would work very well with a lace up combat boot. You'd be restricted to carrying it on the outside of the boot.

The Mora will be a novelty for awhile but if you really decide to get into boot knives you will find better knives to be carried in the boot very quickly.

I carry a lot of boot knives, both fixed and folders (yes, folders can be booted too), and have said on here before that IMO the most important thing is a good boot SHEATH. I prefer inside the boot carry although I sometimes carry in an outside the boot rig. A basic sheath (which can also mean cheap if you find a 'universal' sheath), probably in leather that will hold a variety of smaller knives. Kydex and similar will likely only be one-knife specific. Once you get a good, comfortable sheath You'll see your choice of knives will fall into place.

I'm a big fan of boot knives, mainly for their look and aesthetics. It's a bonus benefit that it's so convenient to carry one in a boot.

Good luck with it.
