I have a very basic Mora Companion stainless knife that used to hold a nice edge but now I can’t even get sharp. I think lots of use and sharpening has changed angle of the edge. If I regrind it, will it be “good as new” or would the edge have been tempered differently?

With the scandi grind, you can get the edge off just enough to really alter the profile to where it won't cut the same. I would check for a wire edge and make sure it hasn't rolled slightly. Stropping really helps alleviate this.

As far as regriding it, I'm not sure how these are tempered but at the worst you'll just have to plunk down $14 for a new knife. All of my Companions have chipped edges from hard abuse. I just rake them across a stone a few times and then strop them to a toothy razor's edge. Any more work than that, and I'll just buy a new one.

Scandis are easy if you have a stone and a strop...on a sharpmaker I tend to end up giving it a v-edge/bevel...which is fine. Like steely said it's a softer steel and REALLY EASY to roll so put it under some light to spot it; go for it!

Good luck!
