Mora HD Companion, rust near handle

I've had the carbon steel mora for maybe a few months now, it's my first fixed blade knife so I wanted to experiment and see what worked and what didn't, leaving it pretty beat up. I put a vinegar and mustard patina on it after the first two months up the blade, and I sanded off any rust and patina that didn't set right off. The problem I have with it now is that I can see a little bit of rust near the injection-molded plastic where the blade ends and the handle starts. I can't sand it off without damaging the handle, and I don't want to risk using CLR and ruining the plastic. Does anyone have experience with this?

Carbon steel. Known for rusting quickly if not looked after. Not much else to say. You could soak it in Metal Rescue or other product like it. That's very effective and wont damage the handle. I use it allot.

Flitz on a q tip. Baking soda and water paste works too.

Thanks, I'll definitely try that. Another thing to note is that I can see the rust within the space between the plastic and metal, so it's not easily exposed and worked on.

I'll try that for sure. I tried to take care of my knife, cleaning it after every use and keeping it dry. I also wiped it down with canola oil a few times. Are there any other things to do with carbon steel that might help? The rust isn't on the blade, just between the plastic of the handle and the blade, I might seal it up with sugru or rubber cement if I can get rid of the rust.
