3 questions about Mora knives:

1) Do any of the Moras with plastic handles have a full tang? (I know that the wooden models have a full tang, but I like the shape/feel of their plastic handles better.)

2) Does Mora make any plastic handled knives that come in laminated steel?

3) Can anyone who has had experience with it comment on the “Hunter” model (I think that is what it is called). Here is a picture: http://www.ragweedforge.com/311.jpg

Thanks you guys.

I think that the only full tang Mora is their Cobbler's knife which may or may not be available anymore. It's a super-thin carbon steel blade. Ragweed used to stock them with a simple handle or as a bare blade. I have one that's destined for a nice wooden handle. I hope they can get more.

PB is right on the full tang issue. The wood-handled MORAS have a FULL-LENGTH stick tang, not a full tang. None of the polymer-handled MORAS have such a tang, and most have a short, but wide tang shaped in such a way to "lock" into the polymer as it is molded around it.

The model #906 is to my knowledge the only poly-handled MORA with the laminated blade. It is a very narrow carving blade (also good at breasting waterfowl) with an extremely accute tip.

My step-dad has the hunter model, the handle and sheath are a little more classy than plastic and red birch, and it feels good in the hand, if you want to spend the extra money for aesthetics, it is a quality knife. I haven't used it personally, but I haven't seen it break or chip. the handle is narrower than the red handled mora, if that's what you're looking for
hope that's helpful

The number 1 (the basic red one) has a full tang with a little keeper you can see at the pommel end.

The plastic Erikkson models have longer tangs than the Frosts ones.

All are good. Never had one break or come loose.

The number 1 (and its cousins) are the only ones they laminate.

You know who makes a lot more laminated blades? Helle of Norway. Most are full length tangs (rat tail) and almost all are laminated. They are more expensive at around $50 but they are great knives. I am getting more and more of them.

I already have more Moras than I can count and I plan on getting some of the HighQ models soon.

Check out Lee Valley Tools. I have bought a number of Frost laminated blades there, with full tangs.

The new Mora Craftline All-arounds have a longer tang than the frosts clipper, as well as a slightly thicker blade, but are otherwise nearly identical. I have beat the living crap out of mine, batonning both the spine and the butt repeatedly on several multiday trips, and it is unfazed.

I have a HighQ Allround Stainless & a HighQ Allround Carbon - both have a long tang that extends for more than 2/3 into the handle. I paid $11 for the stainless & $10 for the carbon so they definitely don't break the bank. While not full tang they have a long enough tang so that it shouldn't be an issue with any normal use you would expect these knives to handle.

Hultafors knives are pretty much exactly like a clipper, but made with thicker stock AUS8 and full tang.

Say Heah Guys and Gals, I really wanted to buy the Forest Exclusive #311, after I just bought a Forest Exclusive # 277, But their discontinued, There's a few #277 around, grab one while you can, It's that good.
